Just curious as to what people thought about adding CD labels? Or would that be crossing the line. I've got quite a few that I've made that look great on lightscribe CD/DVDs and was not sure if I should upload them or not. I've noticed every once and a while I come across CD's that have been scanned and uploaded but those look horrid when you put them on a lightscribe or even if you were to print out a label for them. (Personally I don't think anyone should use those sticky labels anyway).

Well we do allow CD labels, but they are not to popular because they tend to be used more by the BootLeggers. DVD/CD covers are sought by many people that legally have the game disc or cartrige and just needs a replacement of the cover. Most CD/DVD art is sought after by people who are making illegal copies of games.

Now.. I know that there are some people out there at are saying to themselves right now "But I made a copy of my own game so I can store the original and not risk damaging it".. To that I say, "Scan your own copy of the game and make the label yourself!".
If you have nothing to do... Don't do it here!

There are sometimes worthwhile instances of needing CD/DVD labels, similar to repro labels for carts, fan translations. It was really awesome for the Front Mission 5 translation group to include a custom cover/manual/ & disc label upon release of the patch:

Yeah and that is what I was kinda thinking as well. But since I saw that there were some already up I thought I might upload some more. But I don't think I should because of boots why make it easier for bootleggers.

If you uploaded and it passes the quality checks, we'll add it to the site. But again, we are not big fans CD/DVD labels (We so love cart label though!)

It makes me sad that our top downloaded covers are all for Wii.

Even pirates should know that burning a copy of the latest Wii shovelware is a waste.

could just be because the wii is the most popular system out there, don't have to assume pirates.

No, we can assume pirates.

4692 Super Paper Mario (Wii)
3576 Legend of Zelda Twilight Princess, The (Wii)
3492 Excite Truck (Wii)
3439 Cooking Mama (Wii)
3394 Sonic and the Secret Rings (Wii)
3239 WarioWare Smooth Moves (Wii)
3220 Super Mario Galaxy (Wii)

I think there's too many downloads to just be replacing bad covers.

here's the top 2:
76011 Wii Sports (Wii)
69487 Street Fighter Alpha 3 for Matching Service (DC)

Good job shenske. The Wii Sports cover was linked on every major game website. His cover had no publicity.

I think it's really strange that all those Wii covers are on the top (as I thought would be) and then there is shenkses SFA3FMS at the second place.

Why could that be? Was there really such a demand for that particular DC game or did some download bot go bogus. ;D

yeah, it's really hard to come up with a non-piracy related reason to have disc scans outside of fan translations and homebrew.

Wii Sports just makes sense though. That was the first case I think I printed if I remember correctly.

Wii Sports covers were plastered all over the Internet. The Cover Project's first and last major time in the spotlight.

I think Shenske's Dreamcast cover is a glitch. That game might not have even sold that many copies. (Is it a good enough game to pirate en masse?)

Wii Sports makes sense, but the rest are definitely on the account of homebrew. Wii's are easy and popular to hack, just look at GBAtemp. As for Street Fighter, my only assumption is because it's online and had somewhat of a limited release:

This Dreamcast port was re-released in Japan in 2000 as Street Fighter Zero 3: Saikyō-ryū Dōjō for Matching Service, which was released as a mail order title via Dreamcast Direct. The Matching Service version differs from the original due to the addition of an Online Versus Mode. (Wikipedia'd, derp)

Anyway, if I ever find myself in need of a new disc label, it's usually just as scratched and unuseable as the rest of the disc on account of someone not taking care of it. So, not much need for it and it can generally be asked for when the rare time comes about. I'm still for scanning and archiving rare games though, and if something is impossible to buy for a reasonable price (with profits going to the actual game company), then you might as well be able to download it and enjoy a bit of gaming history. Not exactly talking about Street Fighter here (or any Wii games for that matter).
