One of my arcade faves too - used to be a sweet shop near a mates house that had 3 machines - Renegade, Double Dragon, and R-Type.  Think they swapped Renegade for Vigilante eventually.  Spent ALOT of time (and money) there!

They had Renegade at my local chippie. I used to order up, stick 10p in the machine and play 1 credit only. Then it was a sprint home with the family dinner. They changed out Renegade for Track & Field (or Hypersports) eventually and you could never get on it...everyone loved those. ;) I seem to remember an 8 bit computers only sequel too.

here's another one. I'll try and find a place to upload them soon. These don't take long to make, it's just finding artwork that can be a pain. I'll probably get a handful more made here soon and try and get the template presentable enough to upload somewhere.

I gotta ask where your finding all the artwork your using, and will they be HQ enough to pass? Either way, these covers look great!

Where I find art? Just lots of google searching really.

As for the quality, that's honestly my biggest worry. I'll let you be the judge on that I think...

The quality of the Phantasy Star artwork is pretty bad closeup.

it was sourced from a wallpaper that admittedly didn't look very good to begin with. I liked the overall art though...

I'll look into replacing it with something else and redoing it though. I just found some much nicer art.

The covers look great, but according to the sites standards Id probably say they wouldnt pass. Which is a shame because all the art you used fits perfectly with your template and the time of the Sega Master System.

Well I think I might've just hit an excellent art resource. I'll try and touch those covers up and see if maybe they'll pass then...

does this look any better?

...even if they don't get accepted to the site, I'm still going to work on them and make them look as good as I possibly can. Maybe if I'm nice and sacrifice a virgin in their names the admins will be a bit lenient on these. I'd really rather have them on the main site for anyone to find then on say, a box.net account where they'd have to stumble onto my sig or something.

It's just really hard to get good source art from a bunch of Japanese games on a relatively obscure system from the 80s.

I totally agree with you there. Obviously we shouldnt accept anyhting less than our quality standards, but when you but alot of effort into something and youve really tried to made it the best it can be with what you have I dont see why we cant make a few acceptions from time to time.

I kinda felt the same way with my Mega Man X6 cover where everyhting looked great accept for the picture of X and Zero on the back that was a little on the lower quality side. That was a little frustrating because I wanted to stay as true as possible to retail without having to change the art of X and Zero on the back but couldnt find the art in high enough quality. Aside from that the cover looked great so it would of been nice to get an acception on that one to have it openly available to everyone on the site as Im sure plenty could of made good use of it.

Either way, your covers look great and they fit so well with your template. I would maybe try running the sharpen filter on the art one tho, might help improve it a bit.

Actually I thought about that for quite some time when checking the MegaMan cover.

Ultimately I thought though that it would be a shame to host such a very pristine cover with such a not so hot picture on the back.

I wonder if we have any die hard Mega Man fans that might have this artwork book:

Id imagine there would have to be the picture Im looking for in there with artwork I need.

Speaking of art books, is there anything more frustrating then finally finding a set of scans for an artbook you're looking for, only to find that the scans all have a nasty moire effect on them that renders them all but completely unusable?

I ran a sharpen filter over that art btw. It's a subtle effect, but it improves things a lot I think.

There's a 'moire pattern removal' tool in Paint Shop Pro, and I assume Photoshop would have something similar. Or do these not really work very well?
