From the PM crypt today:
Hello there.

Someone introduced me to your site a few weeks back and since then, not only have I downloaded a handful of covers, but I've also added to my game collection simply because you had the replacement covers.  w00t!

Anyway, I would like to help out.  I am in no way a cover artist, but I do have a decent collection of games and I would say I have 95% of the original cover art for them.  I have compared my list of DS games against the covers you have listed for the DS and here is what I can offer:

*  I have these three as well.  I forgot to put them into the numbered list because they were set aside to be traded back in and frankly, it is too much work to incorporate them into the list and renumber, lol.

Spyro Shadow Legacy
The Legend of SPyro A New Beginning
The Legend of Spyro Dawn of the Dragon

So, I started to make this a topic, but being a newb, I wasn't sure about the appropriateness of such a topic or where to even post it.  I have read your scaning guide and I think I have all of the info I need, but I guess I was just looking for a green light to get started on this.

ALso, I do have other games, I just began with my DS collection.  If you are interested, here is my backloggery, with the rest of my games, of course:

So... green light?

Thanks man, I'm looking forward to contributing to this site.  As a game collector, I'm in full favor of its purpose.

Another Metroid Metal fan? I approve.

Good collection overall. I see we have some similar tastes. Metroid, survival horror, and Star Wars Jedi Power battles was my favorite game as a kid (although I don't know how it holds up today :P ). Also, WHO TOLD YOU SILENT HILL 2 WAS BAD? SLAP SOME SENSE INTO THAT PERSON. (And pick up some of the classic Resident Evil games too!)

Thanks Doom.  I would have guessed wrong and posted this in the Request Forum.

Metroid Metal, heck yeah!  I love it.   Would it be a fair assumption, z0mbiew0lf, to say you favor Sony?  I say that based on your favorable mention of games.  Jedi Power Battles was an amazing game.  I know i have it and could play it anytime, but I would love for them to put in on the PSN so I could play it on my PSP.  As for the RE series, I have them all on the GameCube, does that count?

Ok, back on topic, when I made that PM to Doom, I didn't have a scanner and my plan was to run down to Kinko's.  Well, today, I picked up a scanner that has up to 1200 dpi, so I can get started almost immediately.  I'm going to scan everything I have, so what I scan first is really no longer important.

I'm one of the few people that never has had a complaint against GameStop, but I finally do now.  I found Etrian Odyssey 1 and 2, with covers and booklets in perfect condition, the only problem is that some fool at GameStop put a "used" sticker on the actual cover for both games.  I've been fortunate enough to remove most of the stickers without damaging the covers, but there is still a bit of glue residue.  I'm diping my finger in water, then after drying it off a bit, wiping the residue away.  Its kind of working for the most part but not as effectively as I had hoped it would.   Does anyone here have a better suggestion?

Also, when I save the scanned image, what is the prefered format?  When you save an image as a .jpeg, there is a little bit of color saturation.  Would a .png be better?

Oh hah I forgot RE made its way onto the Gamecube. Definitely grew up a Playstation child here, forgot to even look at the GC section other than for Metroid :P

As for Gamestop stickers, find a hair dryer or something and just warm the sticker up. Usually comes off cleanly after that.

Also our covers are all uploaded in .jpeg format. You can always try touching up your scans afterwards ;)

On gamecube, Resident Evil Zero isn't too special, though it's notable for being the last "classic" RE.

The remake of the first game, however, is amazing. Possibly the best game in the entire series.

I think I heard that there is some kind of "Goo gone" stuff over in the US. We don't have such a thing here in the EU sadly but I alyways use a 601 special cleaner for such cleaning jobs. Dries extremly fast and without any residues.

If you scna cover do it in the jpg format please and at at least 300dpi (600dpi is preferred). Please also don't forget to descreen/derasterize!

I don't see where I have the option to choose this.  Nor the option to set the dpi.  Here are two images I've scanned already.  I'm not trying to submit them here, I'm hoping you can look at them and tell me if they are of the quality you guys can work with before I go an scan anymore.

This first one, C.O.R.E., for reasons I do not understand, the scanner scanned the entire area under the lid.

But, of the 42 games I've scanned so far, most turned out like this:

So, if you guys could tell me if these are acceptible, that would be great.  And if they aren't then I will look into finding how to set those options.

Difficult to say if there are problems with the moire effect because the scans are pretty small. Too small.

Scan them in bigger which means more dpi and then we could look. Descreening is pretty important though most of the time.

Thanks!  You saved me from having to redo a bunch of scans. As I said,  I'm not sure how to configure the settings just yet, but I'll get it figured out and post another to get your feedback.  It probably won't be today though.

Scanning guide... of Doom?

Scroll down to the post about "Moire Effect" to get a good idea what the descreen/desasterize options are for. Scanning in a higher DPI means being able to touch up what the scanner does not, as well as being able to print a quality cover that can look indistinguishable from the real thing given the right paper :) As mentioned above, 300dpi is our minimum but 600dpi is preferred so the cover can be touched up as necessary.

Sorry for any redundancy, and as always any other members can tell you anything I've missed :P

Dont upload your scans to photobucket. They resize. Try something like mediafire.
