I got linked to an article on Kotaku. Halo fans might know that Microsoft closed down the original Xbox Live, you know, the one from the original Xbox. But apparently there are still people playing Halo 2 online. They just stayed logged on after the service was shut down. Originally there were 14, as of now there are still 11 people left. I thought I share this story with you people because not only is it hilarious in one way but it really shows some dedication to a beloved game and I respect that. Here's a link to the Kotaku article and within it is a link to the bungie forums. There you'll find a thread that has the remaining players listed and is being updated until the very last of them goes offline. Kudos to them!!! http://kotaku.com/5525837/fourteen-halo-2-fans-refuse-to-let-it-die |

The article was on several websites and I think on IGN they said that they were running the games on their original Xboxes not the 360. And yeah, you can leave your computer running for a long time. Mine is actually running 24/7, but after being idle for about an hour or so it goes into standby. The Xbox doesn't as far as I know. The service was shut down April 14th, that's 16 days now :) I wonder how they managed to stay online without being disconnected. I don't know about the internet providers in the US but in Germany for some reason you are automatically disconnected after 24hrs of constant connection. You can log on again right away but that wouldn't help the Halo 2 people. |
