Super Game Boy Commander

I just found this controller while looking for some Super Game Boy screen shots. Has anyone heard of it before? Is it any good? Anyone know if anywhere still sells it, and has it in stock?

Never heard of those. Not sure whats so special about it tho. Id much rather stick with my SNES controller.

EDIT: Here you go man. If you dont mind paying around 50$ US, this one comes bundles with a JAP Super Gameboy. Both complete in the box. This is the only one too so If you really want it I suggest you grab it while you can!

Oh yeah, i've seen that before.  If i ever ran across one for dirt cheap i'd grab it but i probably prefer the SNES pad anyway.  I actually have scans for it so we can make a UGC cover for it

Thanks BadChad. I can't believe I didn't check ebay... Well, I put in an offer for it, but if he rejects it I'll just Buy It Now. Apart from my curiosity about this controller, I'll finally be able to play my Seiken Densetsu game boy game!

AKA Final Fantasy Adventures. Damn thats a hard game. Even with an emulator its a real bitch. I think I stopped playing around 3 quarters through. Ill have to finish that one. Good luck!

Kind of neat, although I personally would rather use an NES controller to play Super Gameboy games. In case you didn't know, the SNES controllers shares the exact same controller protocols as the NES controller, making them literally interchangeable. On an SNES, NES A and B are mapped to Y and B. On the NES, a SNES controller A and B are the NES A and B. Both controllers even share the same colored wires!

I find it extremely interesting to note that an NES controller on an SNES sends the B and A inputs to SNES Y and B, but SNES B and A. This means that you can use an NES controller to play a great many SNES games, including Super Mario World and Super Mario All-Stars. I wonder if Nintendo ever toyed with the idea of releasing a Famicom controller for SNES? It would be internally identical. Only the plastic controller connector at the end would have to be different. 

You can make adjustments to use either Nintendo pad on either system, but the SNES controller swaps functions with one of the other wires. It still can work, but you'll just need to reverse the colors for two wires.

Super Mario World wouldn't be too good with a NES controller, as you couldn't do the spinning jump thing.

Super Mario All-Stars makes sense, of course, since they're just NES games anyway.

The spin could have been remapped to Down and B like it was in Super Mario Land 2. But the point is that both controls share the same protocol and are interchangeable.

One thing I did notice with the Super Game Boy Commander is that all the buttons are on the face right? Wouldn't that make it the ultimate SuperNES controller for fighting games (short of having a super advantage) then?

maybe, but in all honesty I can't think of a single SNES fighting game that isn't better on another platform espically given the 32-bit era (read: Saturn) and today's consoles. If you really wanted to go all out with a fighting stick for the SNES, you could build yourself one using authentic sanwa parts for around $60.
