Wow beaten to the punch! Good work eightcell! I feel like this project has been snached from benith my feet! Well alls fair in NES cover insert war, so I think I'll just admit defeat.

Becides, I don't object if the white cover eightcell made becomes the standard. After all, I can just edit his cases with the black and red logo for my own personal use if needbe.

It's a community effort, and I just happen to have free time at work is all.

If anyone wants an alternate logo then the one that "wins" I will post full size versions of each version so it can be easily copy & pasted in.

As far as large dvd cases vs Universal cases, I like the prospect of not having to mod the universal cases.

However (though it wouldn't be TERRIBLE to fix) we already have a ton of these covers ready or almost ready.  Plus the NES, SNES and N64 etc will all look fairly uniform on a shelf all being in he same case type, while cd/dvd media will be in the dvd cases and portables will be in the DS cases (though I haven't quite found a good way to get regular gb games in there...)

plus I ordered 200 universal cases a day or 2 ago, heh.

Speaking of which, where can we buy those large DVD cases? We need a site that'll ship worldwide, offer a resonable price and accept bulk orders. I'm all for these cases, as modding Universal Media Cases isn't too hard, but it is a b with an itch. If possible, it'd be nice to also know the dimentions as if it differs from Universal Media, then all the covers will have to be redesigned as well.

only one person knows, the person who brought it up, and from what I can tell they would def have to be redone, this will only be a big deal on certain cases though, some it would be very easy (i tried converting one or 2 covers to dvd case dimensions and don't see to much of a problem...).  Also i imagine the spine is thinner so some logos are going to get even smaller...

im in the same boat as you eightcell, after hearing about this i ordered 200 mediashelving cases as well, since i have't started my n64 or snes games yet, and now with the addition of the NES, i deffinetly need those 200 cases. So i would be extremely upset if you guys decided to make the cases dimensioned for the wide DVD cases. i ended up eventually getting the ds cases modded quite quickly with just an average x-acto knife. it really doesn't take too long, it might have taken me 2-3 minutes per case, which is a very small price to pay for how great they look. (i have about 20 gb games and 8 gbc games, all finished next to me gba games) So im not sure about what we have to cut off to get the NES games to fit in the MS cases, but i would rather do that, since, well i ordered all those cases. and i dont think i will be getting many more n64/snes games to accomodate the leftovers i would have. just my two cents.

Universal cases, DVD cases, slim DVD cases, FAT DVD cases ..... man this is getting out of control.

Maybe we should have a poll on what cases to build covers for before some of us lose our marbles trying to cater for every scenario.

Geez ....   ::)

I am already working on a totally new site design to arrange the new array of case types we are supporting.

I'm late to the party but I wanted to throw in my 2 cents anyway.  I like logo #4 best, but I'm not fond of the white outline.  I think it would look better without the outline, with just the text.

Well, ultimately anyone can choose to use any case.  All scans on this site can be resized by the individual user and applied to any case, so I'm not fussed if everything goes in as the Universal Game Case.

An 8 or 6 pack DVD case has the following dimensions:

5 5/16" x 7 1/2" x 1" in the old scale (well, here at least - I was 2 years old when we went metric, but still know my miles, chains, yards, links, feet and inches).

So, for an insert I simply added 50 pixels to the vertical of the UGC.  So the sleave insert is 3366x2150 pixels.

The photos below are the result.  Note that no cutting is required.  Also, by great coincidence, the hinges of the middle portions that one simple pulls out are 1/32" wider than the hieght of an NES cart.  Thjis holds the cart vertically, which means it doesn't rattle around at all.  A perfect fit.

Were can these be bought? Everywhere here, and they are made in China and exported to the world.  If and when I get some UGC's, I will be savouring them and wont be cutting them.  If you live in the US, I can see an alternative argument.

My dimensions are very rough at this stage.  I just wanted to see if slight stretching a UGC sleeve vertically would suit my purpose.  It does.  The spine may actually be 28mm and not 25.4mm (1").

this looks great! Now all we need is a website that sells them in large quanities and ships worldwide, or at least to US and Canada and then from us worldwide. Anyone got such a site link?

Here you go satoshi matrix.  This is a canada site for you and it confirms that the spines are wider than 1", 1/32" wider in fact at 27mm (boy it's hard talking cross units.  I am not sure but I don't think they use 32nds, 64ths etc. of an inch in the US, they just use 100ths of an inch don't they?).

http://www.effectuality.com/store/item.php/name/Octuple_DVD_Case/product/view/itemid/94/catid/6/store/cdn/lng/en

Best of all, they have no minimum order quantity.  But as I have said before, if you live in the US, the UGC's may be cheaper.  With a $32 minimum UPS charge, that makes them $0.74 each from media shelving (maybe less from the video shopper).

Anyway, I am not entering into any debate on which solution is best.  How can I, I have never held a UGC in my hands.  This is just best for me as I live 6000 miles form LA LA Land, including a crossing of the international date line and proof that travelling back in time is possible.  How else do you explain leaving melbourne at 8a.m. on 1 March, spending 14 hours on a plane, and arriving at 7.a.m on the 1 March :)

Hey thanks a lot Lish. I've emailed them and hopefully I'll get a quote soon. The only problem is that all covers made for Univeral Media Cases will have to be slightly resized as these cases are actually a tad bit taller and thicker. But they look promising for NES games! Now all I need to figure out is what to do with Famicom carts.....Universal Media Cases I guess.

by the way, becides shopperinc, is there any other sites that sell universal media cases and ships to canada? I only need around 50 but the shopperinc only sells them in bundles of 100. I dont want to pay for something I won't be using, espically since I'll be paying in USD.

-Cheers.
