Ok I suppose uniformity is a thing some could want but I prefer the way it is....  ;D It looks nice on the shelf the way it is I think.....

But that's only my oppinion.... Everyone should do it as he wants but i think original artwork should be uploaded.... If someone wants to make it uniform he can download the touched up original art and then change the spine however he wants... That's not difficult and the original art gets preserved...

If anyone's interested, I uploaded the cover to the Japanese version of Final Fantasy. I have the first six games, and I'm working on getting the other five scanned and uploaded.

something to think about.

We could of course keep the image landscape or otherwise adapt it.  Custom might be the way to go but having the original Japanese art is nice to work with, Amano is great and I don't recall ever seeing this original cover before, so thanks.  ;)

I thought about it when working on it.

The first one you posted has too much white when put at that angle. The second one takes away from it being the Japanese version (That logo wasn't made until the Wonderswan / PS1 version, and the logo style itself didn't originate until Final Fantasy IV.). Also, the second version is missing the Japanese text. Don't know if that was intenional or not.

In the end, I just liked the original version, but I don't care if someone wants to customize it for their own collection. Maybe even use it for the U.S. version.

Those were great spine logos, Eightcell.

I made a SNES template (with The GIMP but should also work for Photoshop) for UGC's and would like to add the spine like the way Snowcone made the one for the GBA template.
Is there a way you could make the spine at 294 pixels across at 300 dpi. Then I will upload the guide template.

I agree with Kaiser that having a more uniform appearance would be better (the main reason I came to this site was becasue I liked how the GBA covers looked) but i also realize that alot of cover would have to be redone.

I still plan on using the original artwork except i just want the spines to look similar.

Sure I'll post it when I get home later.

Sure I'll post it when I get home later. I changed some of the tenses in the first paragraph.  I'm going to have to play with the layout kerning etc some more but I think this is pretty close to final.

The Megaman cover looks really really awesome!!!! Sooooooo much better then the original I can't belive it... That would be one where I would prefer the custom to the original cover for sure!

For the Final Fantasy cover.... Maybe on the japanese version a famicom spine logo sould look better? As for the three posted I personally like the first one(the original japanese) best.... The japanese writing just looks beautiful and the big spine writing too.... :)

Just my two cents....

Can I ask something stupid as a noob, are these covers (not just NES but across the site) true to the original box dimensions or are they purely for the universal cases?

(why do I hear the lock n load sound of a gun?)

Ah right, hate to say it but in a way that is a bit of a shame. The high resolution artwork you guys have been collecting is much better than any other site out there I have seen, plus you dont stamp your website watermark all over the place (that really annoys me). I feel there is a real need to collect this material now before it is lost to time.

I understand the projects intentions and all, just it would be nice to have the 'true' originals (even if they are jsut the dirty scans cropped to size) available on the site here.

This isnt the right forum or even the right thread for this...apologies but there you go :)
