I don't know; I thought he might be reconstructing them with game sprites or something.

I'm doing a little of both, really.  Since I'm very familiar with Zelda and Zelda 2 I knew exactly where the screenshots came from so I just go there in the game itself (using FCEUltra).  I usually get screenshots of the sprites I need for the enemies/townsfolk, turn off the sprite layer, take a shot of the background (or in Zelda 1's case just kill off all the enemies and put Link in the right position and pose), then use that as a canvas and put all the enemies into their proper positions using the sprites I captured earlier with just copy/paste.

Anytime! Let me know if there are any other screenshots you need me to get/make (for any NES game). :)

Mind doing some really goofy ones?

I was told that one of the shots is actually not even from the game. It was a level they cut out or something. I would love to do a true retail for this one  :)

I'll do it. I can also scan my box to get a better front cover soon.

I have the cover finished with completely new art and everything ready to go. I just need remade screen shots

I see what you mean, I never noticed that before.  It appears as though the first two screenshots were from an earlier build of the game (notice that the status bar on them does not tell you what world you're in), and indeed #2 is from a level that doesn't exist in the final game although it looks like a spot in 1-2 only with flying beetles instead of those winged Goombas.

I'm confused what you're looking for, though...do you need these screenshots replicated or are you looking for entirely new ones?

Is this the place to request someone do a better Dragon Warrior retail cover?

I'm kinda surprised this site has been around so long and yet stuff like Mario 3 and Zelda is only now getting high-res versions done! I guess the HD remakes of the retail covers is a recent project and it's been more raw up until now?

Done  ;D Its slightly off but close enough. The map screenshot is a beta one too, Some things are placed differently and the Hud is different.
Click to download.

There is a better dragon Warrior cover somewhere in this thread, I suggest searching for it, If you can't find it I'll upload it.
I have been touching up many covers, here are a bunch: https://www.box.com/s/90598f0bd79269893607. I'm currently working on a bunch of Genesis ones, so Ignore the ones that are there.

You should upload it anyway, the site should have such things whether or not I use it!

I re-did the Dragon Warrior cover a while back. It's probably not TCP-worthy but you can use it if you like:

I was always curious about that odd screenshot. I know it was one of the odd levels that Nintendo removed at the last second. Still would be nice to see how the rest of that level plays out.

This looks great! Why are you guys second-guessing yourselves?

These are really hard to find just buried in the forums. If you went through the trouble of doing a cover you should at least attempt to upload it. The worst that will happen is they'll say no, right?

Well it's not second quessing, those of us who have been here long know how strict the quality stantards are.

When we know that cover won't make the site we just publish them on the boards.

But that cover might actually be good enough for the site, at least it's much better than the current one.

That's what I meant, yeah. There's two covers currently, and the retail-accurate one is really poor quality. I thought something was wrong with my printer when I printed it out at first because I was used to gorgeous stuff like the Kirby Superstar cover.

I rebuilt what I think is an even more accurate screenshot for the cover I'm using on my scanavo case.

Original 256x240 with colors fixed to the NES palette:

Comparison:

I hope it helps!
