The only thing I didn't replace on the Balloon Fight cover were the screenshots. Everything thing else was made from the ground up. Text was retyped, seals/logos were replaced with hi-res ones, etc. The cover already on the site looks well enough however the front looks grainy and fuzzy. I completely redrew the cover art pixel by pixel, so in my opinion it's a huge improvement.

Maybe again I had a wrong version??? I'll take a look again!

I was looking through the raws on the site and saw that akrate had a raw for John Elway's Quarterback uploaded but no-one had yet made cover for it, so I thought I'd try and see what I could come up with.

Well, I will say that I have an even greater respect for the cover artists here, that's for sure.  ;D  I ended up redoing the entire back from scratch with the exception of the screenshot and the drawing of Elway next to the arcade machine.  The back, I think, turned out okay.  The front, on the other hand, not so much.  I have a few questions for those who are experts at this:

1) When you have to retype text, are you ever able to find an exact font that matches the original?  I retyped all the text on the back but I had to use fonts that were *close* to the originals as I couldn't find any that matched them exactly.  I couldn't even find the proper font for the barcode, although I did recreate the proper barcode from scratch after researching how to dissect a UPC-A barcode on Wikipedia.  :P

2) While I can clean up solid colours or produce even gradients without much hassle, what do you do if there is something that's a drawing or picture (as in the aforementioned Elway standing next to the arcade cab)?  Bear in mind my artistic ability borders on the Neanderthal so I'm guessing you either need to have far more skill than I or simply better scans?

3) Since the size of an NES box is smaller (skinnier) than the front of a UGC, how do you get the front cover to fit properly?  I can get away with it on the back by just adding a border, but how do you do it on the front?  I couldn't rightly stretch the image or poor Elway would look like his face were made of silly putty, I couldn't centre or left-justify it because then I'd be forced to try to draw the rest of Elway's hand left hand and I can promise you that isn't in the realm of possiblity.  So I ended up right-justifying it and extending the green field and yellow tag.  How do you guys normally go about making a skinnier cover fit on a larger area?

At any rate, it's not great, but it'll hold me over until someone else gets around to giving it the proper treatment.  At first I thought it would be fairly quick to do, but it ended up taking me several hours.  With the quality of work you cover gurus produce it must take you ages to get through a cover, but I have an even greater appreciation for your efforts now, let met tell you. ;)

try IDAutomationSOCRb for upc numbers. Download the barcode linear fonts > ttf for windows demo pack. the word demo replaces numeral six but that's just a reversed numeral nine.
