Exactly. Here's a perfect example: Yesterday I noticed that I had only 1 Players Choice GameCube game in my collection: Viewtifull Joe. Well, seeing as I'm not really a fan of 'Greatest Hits'-esque covers I thought "Let's see if TCP has the original NTSC cover." Well we do, but it's faded and dirty, it's i.e. a raw scan provided by Snowcone back in the day. I'm glad the cover was provided but, IMO that's a perfect case of an old cover that should be cleaned and color-corrected. I've found a bit of a better version @ CoverGalaxy (which was probably based on Snowcone's raw), but the point being made is once something is already up on the site it is assumed to be up to snuff, and so as said, disincentivizes ppl from re-upping new versions...  :(

How about you fix it then? ;)

LOL, as in clean it up? Why, when I just linked to a cleaned up one already that could be added. Plus I don't have the PS/Gimp experience/expertise, nor time, to devote to such an endeavor. If you want me to contribute I'm personally willing to go through the covers during down times at work and make a list of what needs reworking, which I think is fair for my limited ability, but I'm neither an artist nor technically inclined in cover making. I'm sorry that seems to bug you whenever I speak up about such things, but I don't feel that should exclude me from having a voice, however small, concerning matters around here.

Anyways, I'm willing to contribute in my own way, so pm me if you want to continue this conversation train so as not to further derail the thread. :)

I'm almost leery of even posting these in the first place, but I've already put time into it and even if they suck balls, maybe someone can make them usable.

Lumberjack - If I give you scans quick, could you have a cover made now since you're online?

Sure, just depends on how much cleanup is needed.

Damn, I was told they were 600dpi.  Ok, well if I'm willing to settle for lower quality, could you go ahead with these?  Looks like I won't be getting any better.

See if whomever you got them from can re-scan them at a higher resolution. 72 is just too low to work with.

Are NES games your only specialty?  Can you do GBA games?  I have one I need, I could scan it myself at 600dpi

The mediafire website could be compressing them. Try uploading them in a .zip file.

What I try to say is that it still looks like the cover would be a quick whip up from mediocre scans (which I know it is not!!!), and I'd like a version of the cover where the Bombermen would look less like quick spraypaint job, and the coloring would be closer the look/quality of SNES counterparts, but still shape of NES ones. Especially the blue and green parts look grainy/spotty.

This shows me that you don't know a bit what you're talking about. A quick mock up of this cover would have looked a tiny weeny itsy bisty different.... ::)

OK, I'll ask differently: Would someone make alternate custom cover of Dynablaster cover on the site, where the front's blue, green and "skin" parts are altered so that they are solid slide tone color, instead of the original dot matrix newspaper closeup look.  ;D
And where the fronts German text is removed, and perhaps even replaced with the English version.

Happy  ;)

Come on lumber don't talk like that.... You know with some extra work all of your covers (haven't checked the new ones yet) would pass easily....

I dunno why you don't want to go the extra mile to make them perfect and rather be huffy. ;)

I don't want to be disrespectful as I still think of you as a important part of our community but still quality requirements have changed much over the last years and we are all equal after all so everyone has to fulfill the same requirements. :)

I have to go with tik on this one. Hes not trying to be discouraging or anyhting, we just nothing but the best for the site which I aswell am sure your more than capable of. I too have checked your covers and for the most part they just need additional cleaning which is just a few simple clicks with the spot healing brush. As for the ones that have blurryness, all ou need to do is just rescan those and make sure to apply enough weight on the box to keep it nice and flat.

Especially seeing as your capable of contributing so much to the site as you alredy have (Ive definetly printed out my fare share of your covers), we just want to see you produce top notch quality with the rest of us. Please dont take any of this the wrong way because its good to have you back and your definetly a worthy member to the site!  :)

I get it. And for the record some of those were ones I salvaged from my old HD, but it's kinda like seeing a family member for the first time in years, patting him on the back and saying, "Nice to see you again," then punching them in the crotch as hard as possible. It's hard to get genetic purity out of 25+ year old source material. But I'll try harder to meet the new and improved standards.

Can anybody go in and rework the Contra US retail cover. The bottom seems to be cut off. I hope someone still has the original box scans.

  • Think off-center.
Its definetly a habbit that grows on you. I have a system where I starighten things out, clean the raw right on the spot (up to 300% zoom sometimes) apply it to the template then final touches/color corrections. Its time consuming at first but when you develope the eye for it you can fly through it.

It's always also I question of material you got. MD/Genesis/Master System and other hardcase sleeve covers are mostly pretty "easy" to finish up for the site.

NES/SNES and other cardboard stuff mostly is a lot of work and needs extreme touch up depending on the scans condition.
