EDIT: From Wikipedia: In Europe and Oceania, the NES version of Contra was retitled Probotector, where the original main characters, as well as some of the enemy characters, were replaced with robotic counterparts.[6] This was done to circumvent the BPjM's censorship laws in Germany, which prohibits the sales of violent video games to minors. Subsequent Contra games for the NES, Game Boy, Super NES, and Mega Drive followed suit, which were all released in the PAL region under the Probotector title as well and featured similar modifications. |

Absolutely correct! :-) The first game which had the real name "Contra" was the PS1 Verison "Contra - Legacy Of War". For my opinion "our" Probotector covers and designs are better than the original. The robots look just better than the soldiers... :-) This is a game where censorship did something good. hehe |

Maybe someone should create Probotector 3 out of Contra Force too. I would if I'd time and skill, if I understand correctly the job would not be too hard, just swap commando sprites with robot sprites (and maybe some other alterations too) in spite bank (or what is called). |
