  • ...and that's the bottom line
I for one am a big fan of custom covers :)

But if anyone who makes a custom cover has the means to do a retail as well he/she should be highly encouraged to do so. Retail covers for NES are very popular and sought after by a lot of people here!

I have to agree with you there, Kaiser. I love the custom look. (I think the black seals look ugly, too. :-X Haha.)

And, if that's the case, I'll keep my custom the way it is since I think it fills out the cover better, and I'll tweak BadChad his retail version.  :P Then everyone's happy!

I'm assuming that there's no guessing when the upload page will be fixed? I actually have a couple things to upload at this point.

I dont have Spy Hunter yet, but when I do find a copy it will be going in a retail cover. So if you can make a retail cover, it will save me the hassel of having to do it myself! ;)

Most likely both the black and white seals can be uploaded as Retail. The original release black seal games received the white (updated) seal when re-released after the logo changed.

Personally I think that even if the cover is custom it shouldn't have a US seal of qual on the back and a PAL seal of quality on the front. That is like miying the regions on one cover.
2 + 3 = 23

Here's a couple pics I grabbed from Ebay.

Box with white seal.

Box with black seal

Cart with the white seal.

It's kinda funny that this just came up because I was going to share with you guys the way a friend of mine (with an INSANE! amount of games) collects NES. He doesn't want every title, and isn't interested in having the box, but he wants any and all variations of the game carts he collects.

Take a look at this picture I took while scanning NES games for the site at his kitchen counter.

(Hey BadChad there's your Metal Storm, lol.  :))

All 4 of these Ghostbuster carts are different. The top 2 have the black seal and the bottom 2 the white one. If you look hard at the 2 white seals, you can see that the lower one has a "circle R trademark" and the other one doesn't. I forget what he said the difference was between the 2 black seal ones, I think the stickers on the back were different.  Yes, you are reading this right, 4 copies of the same game for as little as a "trademark". And you guys thought you were OCD. :D).

He has the Zelda carts with all 3 seals (original, oval and circle) and with "R", "TM" or nothing variations.

I agree. My first post wasn't very clear. I wasn't commenting on the cover by SonicAdvDX and whether or not it should be considered retail. I should have quoted BadChad's post of wanting a black seal because it couldn't be retail with a white one. I wanted to point out that some games have more than one version of the seal.

Here's the retail Burgertime cover by shenske.

And here's a pic of the original (first) release.

If shenske changed the "circled nintendo" at the top from yellow to red and the seal to black, he could upload another retail cover.

If I had to choose, or was going to make the cover myself (yeah like that could happen), I would want the cover's seal to match whatever one is on my game cart.

Hope I haven't messed up too many of you OCD guys who now have to check to make sure your seals match. ;)

there was some collection website that someone posted a while ago.  No idea what it was called, but they have a NES list that has variations of the seals to take account for.

Entire cover was made from scratch, however the best I could do for the cover art was a cartridge scan. Cleaned it up pretty extensively but I'm still not sure if it's up to standard or not. Either way, if anyone needs it they're more than welcome to it.

I haven't done many NES covers, so I'd be curious to know if it lines up right and everything once it's printed.

Nice cover, and one of the ones I need!  ;D

Of course Arseen raws here for the game were unusable: http://www.mediafire.com/?0h8d7u1cgwz4u

Probably no one notices these raws, but I keep adding them there until uploads work.  ;)

Everybody feel free to rummage through them, they can be rescanned if needed.
