The thing is that moddifications have to be made because NES boxes were never meant to be used beyond retail. They had a useless peice of stryofoam in them and everything. Universal Media cases are meant to be opened and reopened endlessly and so the scans have to conform to the new case size. It all comes down to practicality.

I'm not sure the question was understood and answered properly, so I'll throw in my voice.

You asked about not just NES, but across the site? If I'm reading correctly, you also mean the DVD cased games for newer consoles? They're sized to normal dimensions. As are the Gameboy and DS cases, but that's likely a given.

But yeah, everything that's a cart is fit for the universal case, because they rock. But I suppose it really wouldn't be difficult for one to download and alter them to original box dimensions.

Of course, if I misunderstood the question and it's already been answered, I look like a shmuck, but aw well.

No that was what I was asking.   :D

I understand the intentions of this project...reason I ask is that me and a group of guys are writing a piece of softare for your Mac/Television set (media center type deal) that launches a game ROM (required emulator needed) and organization of the games is also part of it. (metadata such as sytem, synopsis and Covers etc.)

As the interface is designed for your TV set, the box art is needed to be HD quality or as close as. There just isn't many resources out there that I can find that are both high quality or 'good enough' at the original box art spec that we could point people to, to get good box art. This site is by far the best in terms of quality (you painstakingly retouch them whch is awsome...I do that all day in work at my design studio on clients crappy pictures so I know the work that goes into your efforts) but you are designing it to a new box specification (the universal cases).

Anyway, it sounds like a gripe, its not, I think this place is awsome...this is your corner of the web and you are doing with it what you will and it is cool. I just wanted to double check that there will only be universal cases available (other than the obvious DVD cases and Gameboy ones etc. which are a given).

After all that, I do smile in your direction as you all seem to have a love for the box art and games of the past.

Hey eightcell is there any way I can get a cover from Megaman 2 off you early? Not the whole thing, just the front cover taken from the Japanese complete works. I don't need the japanese version, I'm hoping for your custom that replaces Rockman 2 with Megaman 2. I need it to complete a special project I'm working on. Please send the scan to satoshimatrix@hotmail.com. Thanks.

I'll post details later on just what the project is ;)

Hello all new stalker...I mean reader who has been checking out the site for a couple of days and going through boxes of games to see if I had anything worth scanning. As luck would have it I do have a box for the NES/Data East game Dash Galaxy in the alien asylum and a very much abused box for Tiger Heli. At any rate I thought I would at least make mention of these two and if there is any interest I can scan up and email someone the raw scans of either one.

Also I was curious if anyone has been using NES cover art from websites like;
http://www.nesworld.com/boxart.htm
http://ubernes.com/nesboxart.html
http://www.tomheroes.com/Video%20Games%20FS/nintendo%20boxes/nintendo.htm
http://www.planetnintendo.com/thewarpzone/boxart.html

All of those sites have front and back images for most games but unfortunately no spines but for you creative types out there I thought maybe you could use this info for the betterment of mankind or just me  ;D

Unfortunately all off these sites have very low resolution images which do not apply to the standards of our site.....

Your raws if scanned at at least 300dpi(better 600 for working on it) are very welcome..... :)

I'll try to get the Dash Galaxy box scanned in the next couple of days since my scanner crapped out on me I'm going to a friends to use his. That sucks that those sites I listed have boxes that can't be used but what about this link to gamescanner.org where it says they have hi-res box art? Here is the link and hopefully I didn't just waste everyones time again;

Whipped these up last night using the site mentioned above as a resource. Had to resize, crop, edit bends and marks, etc.
I uploaded them to this site just a few moments ago, but here are the links to them:

Very nice work! You're welcome! :)

The only thing you should always check is if the covers have the right dpi the begin with(not all cover scans at gamescanners are 300dpi which are the dpi used by our site).... 1942 for example has 1478dpi which is a little bit weird ans has to be changed before it can get posted to the site.... Although the high dpi isn't reflected by it's filesize so it's even weirder....

Anyway! Welcome to the project and if you're taking requests Could you maybe do startropics NES from gamscanner next? I'd love to get this cover.....

Best wishes Sebastian

I'm almost done with the Startropics box art, however, there's a problem I'm running into here since I'm not familiar with the game. On the back cover, is that a blemish or an intentional "star" in between the A? I'm leaning towards intentional, but I can't judge. I've edited that part out, but I can always add it back in before I upload the cover.

Very nice! The star in between the A is intentional(I think it reflects the middle line in an A).....
Thanks for your work on the cover!
