So bascially I am writing the code for a brand new NES game (and likely more when I finish my first one). I am going to be releasing it on actual cartridge and am wondering if anyone is interested in helping me out?

I know there are tons of talented people who frequent this forum. You would basically have free reign designing the Box Art (regular and UGC) as well as the Label. If you are interested PM me and we'll talk.

Personally, I'd wait until this game of yours is either totally done or at the least in the debugging and/or testing stages before asking one of us to make cover art.

I used to frequent a lot of fangame-related places, I couldn't tell you how often someone runs into a project like this with starry eyes and large ambitions just to become ultimately overwhelmed and abandon the project later.

I agree with AppleQueso, once you get further along in the development of the game let us know. I don't want to sound too negative or anything and i really hope you do finish your project. Untill I can play the (finished or very near finished) nes rom myself to see what kind of cover it would require i wouldn't start making a cover for it. Best of luck though  :)

Please post info as you progress, I'd like to see how it comes along. As said above, I wouldn't worry about box art until the last stages of development. I'm also curious how you'll release it, because as far as I know reproduction carts require the zombification of older ones. :P

Well that depends. RetroZone makes there repros with new parts. If you do finish it you might even be able to get them to sell it for you like Battle Kid.

Sounds cool, lemme know when you get far along. I can do pretty good work. When I have a working PC... Damn you iPod.

Sounds good guys and I understand about the whole overwhelmed thing. I'm currently working on an original Bullet Hell Touhou style shooter that may get ported to NES if it doesn't get too crazy. I have a copy of Recca so it's doable. Really though it's to get my head around all the different programming techniques for games before I delve into Assembly... That being said, eventually maybe I could get a cover made to put the game in a DVD case.

The progress for far with the Bullet Hell is decently far along. We have the concept almost completely figured out including AI etc. Programming I have the GUI completed as well as the first character sprite moving around perfectly in the game. I'm currently waiting on my sprite artist to shoot me a few more enemies and I'm going to program some AI insanity in there.

As for the NES carts themselves no zombification is necessary as BadChad is right, although I am going to use NES Reproductions instead as I have a working relationship with them.

a bullet hell Touhou style shooter? Good luck with that. The only game that's like that on the NES/Famicom is the Famicom only Summer Carnival '92 Recca, and that was made by Nexat Soft, not a single guy. Unless you were planning on making a rom hack of that?

Oh, I'll need all the luck that I can get! I am definitely not doing a hack but I will look at their coding styles to see how they accomplish certain tasks.  Now while it will be Touhou inspired on the NES it will have to be slimmed down.

If I take what Recca did but cut off the left and right sides it should allow me to speed it up a little and maybe add in more bullets. We'll see though as I am still working on the Windows version first. If anyone is interested in beta testing it shoot me a PM and I'll add you to the list.

me thinks he gave up. Coding in old languages that the NES understands is tough. Atari would have been a better first step.

Her mistake was using the yellow triple ziczac beam.
I used Strong straight green one.
It should work better. :D
