nice job on the cover... i dont wanna sound like i'm trying start anything, but the back of Maverl Vs. Capcom 1 & 2 look very like mine with just a different front cover & spine. I had the same idea.... lol. Keep up the good work eightcell.
You might be within your right if you did, truth be told I took your backs and modded them.  :-\  I had been working on something almost exactly the same for those two, but I had much lower res images.

My Dreamcast Hydro Thunder, Resident Evil 3 and Code Veronica are in your cases (though i did change the spine to the font I use on all of mine).

Your stuffs real good too.  Maybe we could collaborate in the future.

You two should definitely team up. That'd be one hell of a Dynamic Duo :)

i was just saying. It's not like i care that you used the cover's, Just give alittle credit next time... & if you want to you can change my other cover's to match yours style. Just put my name up there someplace. I wouldn't mind helping out on some covers down the road. I might just put up a dreamcast photoshop temp later down the line. Great job on the covers still can't wait to see what you do on your own... lol

:P

Absolutely.

I have a template I made and use myself that I'll probably post when I think it's ready.

EDIT: There are a few covers on the site that I have modded to fit "my style" for my own use. If anyone is interested in seeing/using the mods I'll post them with the following rules:
- I  give credit to the original creator (and link to the original)
- I'll remove it if they wish

(examples of mods: Jet Set/Grind Radio, Capcom Vs SNK 2, Dead or Alive 2)

Het guys,

I also started to make my first two dreamcast dvd covers, and since I'm from europe I make PAL ones.

Half life
Propeller Arena

used my selfmade template for it.

Let me know what you think.

I like it a lot. Looks really good. If you need scans, I have scans to 20 PAL DC games.

Thanx, I'll see what I need. I have a lot of PAL games myself, but I believe I still need a couple.

Found this site via Kotaku, lots of great scans of arcade flyers.  Good stuff.  Lots of potential for custom covers!  Also just great artwork in general!

http://www.arcadeflyers.com/?page=home

You can search by company or game name.  here are some examples:

Also if people are looking for logos check out:

http://www.brandsoftheworld.com/

they have vector art of many video game logos

big update with many of those in progress covers coming soon.

Does anyone know how Eightcell does that nifty gradient effect on the front cover template? It's not in the original PNG template, and I'm not all that good at photoshop so I don't know how to do it. Can anyone give me some tips?

Yes!  I use modded versions of the cover templates on both the GBA and Dreamcast covers I do.  They both have this drop shadow sort of effect under the left hand graphic. I could post them at some point i guess.  There are a bunch of ways to do it, but this might be the easiest to explain (though you'll need to know a bit about photoshop terminology to "get it" i think):

In Photoshop select the magic wand tool, then make sure "contiguous" is unchecked and "all layers" is unchecked.  Now click the negative space around the graphic, you should now have all the space on the right and left of the graphic selected.

Go Select>Invert at the top.  Now create a new layer BELOW the current layer.  Fill the selection with black using the paint bucket.  Now get rid of the selection.

With this new layer selected go Filter>Blur>Gaussian Blur and slide the bar till you start seeing gradient spill out from behind the graphic. When you're happy with it hit OK.

Now delete any of the black that spilled out onto the spine.  You can adjust the layers opacity to make it lighter or you can duplicate the layer to make it darker.

Oh, that makes sense.

To be honest, I got kind of impatient and tried to figure it out myself. Turns out Photoshop has a Drop Shadow tool in the layer options. I just used it on the template when I pasted it onto the image.
