Even something as little as enhancing the black on that scan could probably make a big difference. Some scanners seem to lighten up blacks (probably from the scanner light during scanning) and that can greatly enhance the flaws on a box/cover. If whatever program you use to make covers has an option to select a specific color, select black and turn it up a bit. That's a personal tip that I find makes a nice difference in any cover.

Thanks Chad, I'm using paint.net so I'll have to see if there is something that singles out a specific color. I usually just mess with Brightness / Contrast when trying to get the right color of black.

Basically, I've done something similar to what BadChad was talking about. I increased the Resolution by twice as much. I slightly burred the image and changed the black levels (to try and absorb the dirt and noise). Added a filter and brought it back to its original resolution. See if it works out for you.
