wow! a Pieces scan - I am shocked. My Fiancee loves this box and has been poking at me to find it for her. She will love the raw scans, however, now i will have to make a retail horizontal or she will kick me in the butt. Thanks for the scans but i need to sleep soon because a cover will be started.

If you're so motivated, could you put a vertical together too?

ja, affirmative. I will have to make the covers anyway or my Fiancee will put a boot in my butt. She really likes this box and will make me do it today. I'll sleep a bit soon, then start the work in the morning. Thanks for sharing scans, I appreciate it.

hmm. I have a question for cover gurus:
i do not make vertical covers. i download the template by shenske (i guess) but he has like a million objects (i guess layers?) in the file instead of a single template for each design. I am puzzled as to what everyone is using. I do not use photoshit, i mean photoshop but i can open .psd files. I would like to know if someone can make a single .psd file with a standard US vertical template. I want to make Pieces but i wan it to be acceptable by TCP users. Understand that i restore retail boxes (not templates.) I would like to contribute to the cover making of TCP but i am new to this area. help is wanted. maybe someone could make a US vertical standard that i could download? i don't want to make a vertical cover that does not comply with what everyone wants. know what i mean?

i hope that i make sense. been drinking Erdinger  ;D
i want to make a cover-guru acceptable vertical but too many layers in the file. help!

I have some simple templates. They can comply with cover project standards but it's really up to you.

Shenske provided me with empty Covers of the 3 different SNES Verticals (PAL, US and JAP).
I'll make them into Paint.net Templates that are only 3 layers:

- Bottom: Front image and screenshots go there.
- Middle: Is the actual template with empty spots for front image and screenshots to show thru.
- Top: ONLY FOR NINTENDO logos and where the titles go.

You can then add the backtext, SNS logos and barcode numbers in either Paint.net to the Top layer or like I do in MS Paint (Windows 7, older ones screw the DPI when saved).

@segamer Thanks. grabbed the template in your link. very nice. layers are simplified.

@everyone else not criticizing anyone here. just sayin' that if it were me, i'd make a template for each region and design. I'm just a vertical template noob here. nothing to see. move along  ;D

excellent! I use PhotoImpact to edit images. I've used it since version 4. PI has much of the same functionality for a more reasonable price. Adobe is cuckoo. I refuse to pay those prices. Anyway, PI supports .psd files too but handles "layers" much better. In PI they are objects and i like this concept better. I never liked Macromedia Fireworks either as it also had the layer concept. Objects are clickable and have context menus which facilitate everything. I've been using PI11 for years and just upgraded to X3 from Corel for $30. Better than $600-800 - I'd rather buy Autodesk for such high prices. I won't even use it if it's free. I hate Adobe. Everyone is entitled to live their lives the way they like, lawfully of course, and i live mine without adobe. If you like adobe, then great. My opinion is just that - mine.

anyway, i'd like to offer more help with covers here and the vertical templates will help. Thank Shenske for me. I'm glad that he simplified them for us.
post links and i'll download immediately.

Thanks Arseen.

OK I made them.
Upping takes few minutes.

But they are in PND not PSD.

Here, super simplified templates that work in Paint.net at least.

Bottom layers pink areas match to the holes in middle layer, so as long as the images you insert to them covers the pink areas no gaps are left.

I like the template that segamer offers. I already downloaded it and started working on it.
I did not get alot done last night. I had a personal issue to deal with.
anyway, working on a vertical today.
i'll have to post it when i'm done and hopefully covergurus can look it over and tell me if it conforms to the standard layout.

@cover makers
will someone please finish what i've started making? I've started a Pieces vertical but I did not notice the marker on the cover and the candy effect on the logo. I must completely restore this box art because my Fiancee wants it shiny and new like the original art. I need alot more time to do that and i know that folks around here don't like to wait for covers. I cannot accept image editor algorithms to make covers appear to be cleaned. I actually restore art (sometimes redrawing it.) I want Yukon to get a vertical until i can finish the restoration.

wip file:
http://www.mediafire.com/download/77ih648z7yza7gq/pieces-wip.tif

I'd really appreciate the favor of completing it for Yukon (not for me.)
I will post my fully restored art here later for anyone to download and use.

meantime, i'll finish some verticals that do not need so much of my time. I've started many and i'll finish alot of them this week.

I could probably do it but I would just start over. Nothing against what you've done so far but the template you are using is just the super toned down version. Nothing is editable and can't switch regions. Photoshop is really the only way to go using the Vertical Template.

When do you need it by to keep the fiancé happy?

ja, i have Photoshop elements that came with my copy of Sketchbook Pro from Autodesk.
I use PhotoImpact and i can save .psd format.
the objects (or layers) aren't a problem; knowing which objects to keep for a particular region is a bit confusing. I haven't examined the vertical cover making process, so i did not know what everyone expects from a vertical.

regarding Pieces, she wants it asap. She really likes this box and she wants to make stuff with the art but i need to restore it.
I already started the process. I will remove the Pieces logo from the cover and fill in the missing backgorund. I will remove the puzzle outlines so i'm left with just the character, the ground and the sky. I will restore/clean that base image, then add the puzzle effect to it. The logo can then be merged wherever one wants it. That sounds easier than what it is. I need days to do it. I will just keep working on it and post when i'm done.

okay, back to work...
