I download roms, sure, plenty of them, and play online a lot too, but I never would consider myself "collecting" them or anything. It's just not the same, and really should never be considered part of your collection.
Aside from the fact that there's just something intangible about playing on the real hardware that no emulation, no matter how accurate, can emulate, I still don't find the emulation of n64/ps1/saturn era systems and beyond to be very satisfactory. Too many graphical errors, too much configuration required, etc. That's just me though...
Impressive for what you have I suppose, though personally I'm still not very interested in most newer consoles. I suppose I'm just far too busy still enjoying all that I missed last gen. I'll get these new consoles eventually, just not any time soon.
Well i totally agree with what you said...
Firstly i started collecting roms a good 15 years ago so i was a lot younger then and rarely actually play them but main reason was for online play and well missing the games i used to play back in the day. I admit i do like the latest Gen consoles but they are not the best things around. Me personally even to this day i still believe the best system in the world would have to be the Amiga hands down, I am kicking myself i got rid of the Amiga 500 about 17 years ago as i had thousands of games for it and like i said i wish the console lasted forever but as we know it is impossible when people release new updated console with better graphics as where we are today with Xbox360 etc.
When the Wii first came out I did start re-purchasing Snes, N64 and megardive games again on VC but after noticing there were no online play, that really bugged me, that is just me, I don't really see the point of buying games i bought once before without extra features such as online play. So to me everything on the Wii shopping channel is a whole big waste of time and money and space. But i do like the WiiWare games as some do have online play which is why i also buy downloadable games on the Xbox360 Live Arcade. For example i bought TMNT arcade game on Xbox Live and they made it 4 players online which was great and i'm thinking why can't they do that with any retro game in the past that had multiplayer options to be able to play online too, im sure it is not hard to do when emulators can do it. I just prefer my games online that is all, there is nothing better than playing some games with a bunch of people you know that are not AI controlled. As you may have noticed i have a few video game controllers which is for when a bunch of people come around to play multiplayer games etc, again that is me. The best thing that was ever invented was online play.
