hey all, i am recreating a Mickey Mouse V cover from scratch based upon my German box scan (Mickey Mouse V Zauberstäbe [Magic Wand]). I translated the German myself and i found the US version but the title appears to be just Mickey Mouse Magic Wand. Is this the correct title? I don't know why the German cover has 5 (yes i know, four other games must have come before it but i am unaware of these other four games. Besides, why does the US title drop the 5?) Anyway, i post an image of my box scan and my recreation from scratch progress, so that everyone can see the V in the title. Is there a reason why the US title is different?

Very close, Arseen, but not 100% accurate. I'm actually the one who initially wrote the Wikipedia article on the Japanese vs US/ Europe versions of this series back in 2005. It's complicated. Until around the time of when Magic Wands was released, Capcom had the exclusive rights to publish Disney games in the USA. This is also the reason Mickey Mousecapade (a Hudson game) was published by Capcom in the US. The original developer either had to let Capcom publish their game, or replace the Disney characters. The series actually started in Feb '89 in Japan as Roger Rabbit on the Famicom Disk System. Mickey's Dangerous Chase was not part of the same series, but like Mickey Mousecapade, was published by Capcom in the US (a Kemco game). Here's the rest, all on Game Boy (or Color/ Advance) unless specified.

JPN Roger Rabbit (FDS) = US The Bugs Bunny Crazy Castle (NES) (no EU release)
JPN Mickey Mouse 1 = US/EU The Bugs Bunny Crazy Castle
JPN Mickey Mouse 2 = US The Bugs Bunny Crazy Castle 2 = EU Mickey Mouse 1 (1992) / Hugo (1995)

At this point, the crazy castle and Mickey Mouse series were separated into their own groups, and the CC series used the same characters worldwide. Since Japan at this point hadn't had any Bugs Bunny Crazy Castle games (using those names/ characters), they released The Bugs Bunny Crazy Castle 1 and 2 on one cartridge, as Bugs Bunny Collection, exclusively in Japan, with added Super Game Boy features. Then they ported the Japan only GB game, Soreyuke!! Kid (part of the Kid Klown series, eventually) to GBC as The Bugs Bunny Crazy Castle 3, worldwide.

Crazy Castle series (continued):
Bugs Bunny Collection (Japan only)
Bugs Bunny Crazy Castle 3 (worldwide)
Bugs Bunny Crazy Castle 4 (wordwide)
Woody Woodpecker Crazy Castle 5 (worldwide)

Mickey Mouse series (continued):
JPN Mickey Mouse III: Dream Balloon (FC) = US Kid Klown in Knight Mayor World (NES) (There is actually a US prototype MM version!)
JPN Mickey Mouse IV: Mahou no Labyrinth = EU Garfield Labyrinth = US The Real Ghostbusters
JPN Mickey Mouse V: Mahou no Stick = EU Mickey Mouse V: Zauberstaebe! = US Mickey Mouse: Magic Wands!

Oh OK.
I just quick checked GameFAQs Mickey Mouse Franchises list.
I stand humbly corrected.

A for effort. (E for effort?) Great job though without any research! I've actually dove into all of these and compared on emulators and all of that.

No problem. I love trivia like this! Download Soreyuke!! Kid sometime. Exact same game as BBCC3, but for original GB instead of GBC and with different characters. Not sure why they kept the "V" for the Euro version of Magic Wands. If anything, they should have called it Mickey Mouse II: Magic Wands, as it's the second PAL version of the series. (Kinda/ sorta, it got messy after part JPN part 2).

Hi Mario, i've compared games in the past. I once saw you post about Chavez II being Boxing Legends of the Ring and i smiled. You are correct. I verified it years ago. Same game with a different name for Spanish speaking market. Anyway, i don't know alot about GameBoy family of systems. I have advance and DS handhelds but not alot of games (yet).

I haven't worked on the Mickey cover since my last post but i finally got around to recreating (drawing) the logo. I noticed that the V is drawn in such a way as to implicate II. Which is clever in my opinion.

i got too busy making Sylvester and Tweety wallpapers for my Wife. She liked the images in the GameBoy manual, so i remade them (draw them as paths/objects). I also started drawing the front cover of Eek! The Cat for snes as a challenge to myself. Increasing my digial art skills.

Eek! is almost finished. I did a good job redrawing the cover. I like it. I also like my Sylvester and Tweety wallpapers.

ps. I never noticed that the teeth spell the word Eek. LOL I started drawing the teeth and i thought "this guy is a strange artist. I've never seen teeth drawn like this before." Then i zoomed out mentally and i realized the letters e-e-k. LOL. never noticed that before.

Best Wishes,
John

I finally finished the Eek! The Cat front cover redraw. I drew everything on the cover, then colored it. I am happy to be done with this one. I think it cost me a week of steady work. Ridiculous.

the original is very large

i'm not sure that i will work on Mickey right now because my Wife wants me to recreate the Magical Quest cover (which i all ready started). Anyway, Eek is complete as far as the front cover goes...

following up on my last post: Eek! The Cat rebuild (redraw, recolor, retype etc) is almost complete! I have redrawn everything on the front and back of the US box. I have recaptured screens with accuracy. I have retyped the text in the closest matching fonts in my collection. This box has been completely rebuilt. My skills are getting better.

Eek! The Cat gameplay really makes me angry. I hate playing this game but it is not that bad after a week of steady playing. I suppose that reviews are too quick to judge. I didn't mind alot of stuff after learning ho to play it as intended. However, the screen captures were a bit of a pain. Anyway, this game rebuild is nearly complete and out of my life. I'm going to finish the Dragon View logo then move onto something else.

Hello everyone,

I started a Boogerman redraw and the front cover is finished outlining. I started working on the back cover and i noticed that the screen captures are from the SEGA Genesis original version LOL. Anyway, i need to make screen captures from a Genesis for this box. Are there other gameboxes that use SEGA Genesis screen shots? I am just curious if anyone knows of other gameboxes like this one.

I would guess that a lot of multiplatform games use screenshots of whatever version was developed first. I know some games say "___ version screenshots shown".
