As the first Virtual Console covers have been posted I wonder why some of them are labeled as retail? How can a covre that never existed be retail? ;D

Shouldn't they be all labeled as custom?

They use the retail artwork so I thought I'd label them as retail cover.
The NES covers we have are also labeled as retail/original cover although we changed the spine with a logo so that they match...

Hmmmm.... You've got your point there but the NES UGC covers just have a little alternation in the spine and those cases look like Wii covers with NES artwork..... So in my oppinion they look pretty custom.... :)

Soul Blader for the SNES was made from a low res scan(200dpi)..... It was scaled up to meet our requirements(that's why I didn't post it in the first place)....

If everyone thinks it's ok anyway(it looks ok but I thought we should follow our minimum quality rules) we could start working on the other jap scans from Y~K..... They are pretty hard to come by after all....

Damn, it looked good to me. Should have given it a second look. When you see a cover in the queue that is not up to the standards then delete it. That's what I usually do. We have told people over and over what our standards are so I have no guilty conscience deleting covers. Sounds harsh but that's how I see it.

As for your question, I'm not a talented cover maker :) If a trusted and appreciated cover artist like Lumberjack42, you, Lish or the likes creates and uploads a cover I'm usually tempted to think that everything is the way it should be. From the quick look I had at the cover it seemed good and I didn't bother double-checking it (which in retrospect I should've done). As you said, scans like Y~K's are hard to come by, which is no carte blanche for creating covers from low(er) quality scans which again results in low(er) quality covers. It's really a question for the dedicated cover makers. Do YOU think we should create covers from these scans or reject them with a tear in our eye?

It's really difficult to say.... I took a close look at the Soul Blader cover in photoshop and it looks ok but not perfect.... If the scan used for creation would have been 300dpi I suppose the cover would look awesome(except some little blemishes ;) ) but with the 200dpi scan upscaled at the end it looks a little bit grainy when zoomed in close..... The question is if you would see this on the printout..... I suppose no but it's about our standards so I'd say let those scans be with two tears in our eyes....

Maybe someone can convince Y~K to rescan his covers with 300dpi? That would be perfect!

I asked him that question some time ago... he said 'might do it, but not anytime soon'.

Anyway, as much as I would like to make some covers from those raws, I'm going to wait until Y~K provides me with better quality ones. The spines are missing too - so even the Soul Blader cover from Lumberjack42 (as good as it is) is missing something right now.

Something I just noticed: In the n64 section you guys have uploaded my Pocket Monsters Stadium 1 & 2 covers as alternitive covers for the US Pokémon Stadium 1 & 2. This is incorrect.

In Japan there are three Pocket Monsters Stadium games: 1, 2 and 3. Pocket Monsters Stadium 1 was never released outside Japan because it came out before Pokémon became mega popular; Pocket Monsters Stadium 2 was the first to be translated and was renamed Pokémon Stadium (1) for its US release. When Pocket Monsters Stadium 3 G/S came out it thus became Pokémon Stadium 2.

If thats confusing, refer to this little chart:

Country      Game name

JPN      PKMN STUM 1      PKMN STUM 2    PKMN STUM 3

USA     N/A                    PKMN STUM 1    PKMN STUM 2

So instead of being alternitives, Pocket Monsters Stadium 1 should be listed as Pocket Monsters Stadium seperte from the others and Pocket Monsters Stadium 2 could be either listed on its own or as an alternitive for Pokémon Stadium (1).

Just think of confusing Final Fantasy numbering  :P

I think this should be brought back to the top, it seemed to help a lot back when I started it. If not, feel free to close it. Thanks.
I'll do you one better and sticky this.

Amended now. Have a look and let me know if it needs further correcting.
