This IS unfortunate that UGCs are discontinued....for now.
As has been said, there is a lot going on in the world and it's entirely possible manufacturing for these has been disrupted.  Hopefully that will change once things get a little close to how they used to be.  Until then, people new to the casing game, or those who haven't yet completed, aren't left with many options.

At the same time, to anyone complaining about Custom Game Cases (on all of the multiple posts about this topic), remember that CGC is one guy with a small company.  UGCs were a Chinese product sold in mass bulk for years.  They are not in the same market.  A lot of us who have been on these forums for years have sampled and fallen in love with CGCs, despite the higher cost and switched over.  But obviously they're not for everyone.
Imagine if you live in a town where the only two places to get cheeseburgers was McDonalds and a high end gourmet burger place.  If your McDonalds closes, that sucks.  But you shouldn't get mad at the gourmet place because it's now the only option to eat burgers.  It sucks. but the choice is yours: you can go to the gourmet place or eat something else.

Well said.  It gets frustrating listening to people complain about the cost of the CGCs.  Shadowfox has brought a huge service to the community and he deserves to be commended for that.

Well said, guys! I would never go back to the universal game cases, even if they still made them. Megatron's comparison of McDonald's to a gourmet restaurant was cool. The universal game case is McDonald's and the custom game case is a gourmet restaurant. Ha ha ha! I agree with everything he said.

I had found out about custom game cases before I joined this forum. The order I placed took a little over three weeks. When I got the end product, I felt the wait was well worth it and I planned on buying more. I used to do video editing when DVDs were popular and we tried many vendors for decent quality cases. What we always found was that when we bought the cheap cases, we got what we paid for. I feel custom game cases are a good quality and that's important to me. I will happily pay a little more for a quality product and to support a small business.

I figured I'd throw in my "2-Cents" into this thread.  ;)

I tend to watch TCP often, and everyone here really does make me feel like family! I have been getting loads of new people inquiring on my cases as of late due to the UGC going away. One of my main issues I needed to resolve was creating a constant price list for BULK Blank Case orders; especially when it comes to International shipments. (Thinking of you Sheep and Arseen!  :-*)

To all the new-comers here; Welcome to the inner circle! (I don't know any other place on the internet where Game Makers, Retro Shop Owners, Developers, Collectors, and the sort lurk and discuss relevant items in the Gaming Community World then thecoverproject) <3

With that being said, Yes! I really do want to offer you my cases at prices that are fair. (No one needs to be going broke; you and I both have bellies to feed)  :D The money is nice, but I really do make the cases because of the joy they bring to people.

I've been working on this item all last night and so far, all today. Between my costs, postage, weights, different locations, price % breakdowns, I BELIEVE I have solved this issue.  ;D
Blank cases from 1-100pcs will be slightly higher on my site now, however, 500+ are significantly lower. (I'm quite proud of what I was able to do with the Gameboy cases at 6 pallets worth! $0.96ea delivered worldwide!  8) )
I get that these larger bulk sets won't be for most people BUT! I know those guys are out there, and when they buy these it will bring these cases to your local Marketplace at prices I couldn't compete with from shipping out of the USA.

Also, I've been focusing on the THICK Gameboy cases as my next mold, however, I've been getting way more people asking about Atari Cases, now that the UGC's are going away. I want to step up my game and fill this void, so if anyone wants to start an Atari Thread about the variations of carts/ booklets/ media, ect. I'll be on the look out for that thread.

... Thinking of you ... Arseen!  :-* ...
Unfortunately the wait might be long (Estimating five to seven years if all goes perfectly)
I have multi pronged problem which boils down to space and money.

I am still in a pickle with space.
I am starting to get ready with the renovation which will lift my bedrooms ceiling 15-20cm, drop the floor 10-15cm, and increase room size from 2x5m + 2.5x5m  to 7x6m of which 5.5x6m will be fully usable and 1.5x6m partially obstructed but still very usable as closets.
This renovation removes 2 big walls so I'll have to asses how much shelf space I can cleanly fit there. = Space Problem

Also running low on funds = Money Problem.

So I might need to downsize my collection (NES, SNES & N64 parts probably) due to both problems.
Space being the bigger problem.
If I can find suitable space I'll store the games until I get money to build whole new basement where to house gameroom.
After which I'll buy the cases.
Worst case I might even have to go emulation route. :'(

Everything you said is great news.  Although, I have to say that Atari will be tricky if you want cases that hold the game tightly.  While many Atari games came in a standard size cart, many didn't since there wasn't a specific requirement the way there was with NES carts.  I love the idea of an Atari case, but I feel like it might have to be similar to the UGC, meaning it can hold many different size carts, but the carts will be loose inside.  Personally, I would be perfectly fine with that, but others may disagree.

Using the UGC idea a bit.
How about case where the bottom has clips that can catch all carts maybe by going inside the connector area.
On top part it would have series of clips to hold every type of cart firmly.
User would clip of the unnecessary clips to fit any cart.

Or both sides would have series of clips user could clip away.

That was beautiful, Shadowfox. I check The Cover Project often. I also work on covers often. However, I don't make covers because I feel I have to. I make covers because it's something I enjoy doing.

You make the best cases! I'd like to see you make an Atari Custom Game Case. One day, I was checking the used video games at my local Eco Thrift. I saw three boxed Atari 2600 games for the first time. When I saw them, I thought, "I hope Shadowfox can make an Atari Custom Game Case. When there is a case available, I'll start making Atari covers. Maybe he would need to make three different Atari cases for 2600, 5200, and 7800 games." That thought made me drool.

I would like to wish you good luck on making those thick Game Boy cases. I'm looking forward to them. If you need any covers, I have over 200 available. Please take care and stay safe!

Catching on 3 sides would work for most Atari carts.  The only ones that I can think of that would still be an issue would be this m-network games.

On the UGCs idea though.  I wondered if it would be cheaper to produce the CGC without any cart slot, and then sell a separate tray for whichever system.  Might mean less stock of specific cases hanging around.

I'd say go start one up so you have control of the main post.  You might be able to do 1 case for both 2600 and 7800 carts as the cart slot is the same size.  5200 and 400/800 are different sizes.

@Shadowfox,

If you start up a new thread for Atari carts, I will be happy to take pictures and measurements of every different sized Atari cart that I own.  It certainly isn't a huge collection, but I know I have several different sizes of carts.

You might actually be able to get C64 carts in with the 2600 / 7800 also.  I think they are about the same cartridge wise.

You can order UGC from AliBaba, but it is very expensive. If you message them, they will do smaller shipments.

I am getting Universal Game Cases in. I have over 1000 cases already enroute to me as I have a supplier for them again. I have access to more as well. Pricing will start at $2.30 per case plus shipping if you buy 100. Will cost a little more if you buy less then 100. Please reply if interested. I may post them at VideoGameTrader.com once they arrive.
