Hey guys, I thought I would share this here. I ordered some Universal Game Cases from MediaShelving awhile ago. But then, I received a message from Mark S. from MediaShelving stating that the cases have actually been discontinued and that refunds for existing orders of cases were going out. cosmickatamari from RetroRGB also received this message. Here is a link to their post.

I’m sure this may have to do with the current world situation, but I don’t want to jump to conclusions. It really stinks, but what can ya do? I’m kinda surprised more people don’t use them. They have been so helpful in my collection, and I can have nice artwork (thanks to this site) without having to shell out more money for the original box. As of this writing, I cannot find any other outlet that has them in stock. I hope they come back some time after the pandemic, but I’m not too sure about it. Anyway, just thought I’d post this here since I didn’t see it elsewhere on the forums, and I’m sure a lot of us are looking for more cases for more carts.

We know.
Luckily one of our members does Custom Game Cases which are superior.
Same size as UGC but 5mm wider at spine so even thick manuals fit.

Could you please share who this is and how I could order some?

I have been inquiring further about the custom game cases and received this email from Mark S. today after asking if after the pandemic the custom game cases may be re-continued.

Check with me after the Holidays,  not promising but I am doing my best…

So maybe there is some hope?

You said "custom game case," but I assume you were referring to "universal game case" as those are the cases that have been discontinued.  The "custom game cases" are the newer versions that are readily available/still in production.

Also, Arseen, can we combine the multiple threads about the discontinued UGCs?
Maybe, just once, someone will call me "sir" without adding, "you're making a scene."

We could but the resut will be mess as all messages would re-arrange in chronological order so it would be hard to know which
answer goes to which post.
I might still do it and then do some manual pruning.

My apologies. I did mean the Universal Game Cases. I had a order in for 200 that got cancelled and have been asking about them

Here is what Mark emailed me:

"We made these ourselves.  They were very popular during the video store era and renting of games. Over the past couple of years it has surged mainly by the retro craze.

We placed a reorder with our factory in Late December. Chinese New Year in 2020 was early, 1/25. The factory was not producing anything the week before and the week after due to the Holiday so they booked production for Mid Feb. Right as they were coming back in early February COVID hit and they shut down all the way till May.  Then in May we found out that the factory we used closed. We struggled to get the schematics for the case and took it to 2 other factories, but between new tooling costs, increased construction cost and Tariffs my company decided not to re order.

That’s the full story.

I told him he should do a kickstarter to get them in production again.

I'm open to alternatives; and have certainly cased several collections via Custom Game Cases; but the UGC is so standard and fits quick a bit of stuff; would be nice to have them as an option.

Maybe politely suggest that those schematics be made open source for the community if he is abandoning the product?

Ask CGC if he’ll reproduce them. He may very well be interested.

Oof. I’m sort of happy that my old N64 cases never sold. Now I’ve got another 300+ UGCs, and I need em.

Dude you are Cover Admin thus you are full blown Global Mod yourself. 8)
Only difference between you and mod is that you have freaking much bigger abilities.
And difference between you and me is different color badge with different text... and you are better in cover making... and I have access to one more lair. ;)

Anyway done with three clicks, one copy paste and one text... and this post. ;D
