Cleaning RAW Scans

Can anyone teach me how to clean RAW scans or point me in the right direction to learn? I have several cases and scans that I need to create and clean and would like to contribute rather than requesting someone else do all the work all the time.

There's a lot of free software out there. I use photoshop but GIMP is a pretty good alternative. Apart from that I normally crop, straighten, level and saturate the image to give it some life.

One tool that has been really helpful for me is the clone stamp tool. It basically copies what you select and places it where you paint. This is an amazing tool if the image you want has blemishes you want to get rid of.

I didn't read through it to see if it talks about cleaning raws specifically but it should help some.

I read through this and actually already had it pulled up but it doesn't talk about cleaning RAW scans.

One good thing to learn is about extracting foreground from a solid background. Then you can replace the background with a clean solid background, and save the foreground. If you don't have any Photoshop or equivalent experience yet, I'd suggest just learning some basic skills first. I'm sure Youtube has some decent tutorials. I've been using Photoshop for awhile personally, but I used a book a couple years ago to fill in some knowledge gaps.

Edit: It might be fun to make a 15 minute or so Youtube video just running through the process of cleaning up a scan.

I have to re-scan what I have because I learned how to remove the gray space my scanner was picking up but what I have is posted here.
