I was over on UG, and someone suggested I make a post here.  I have about 80 SNES box scans, all saved lossless at 300 DPI, and I was wondering if people wanted to have a crack at editing them.  I noticed most of the scans here are custom or do not include the side flaps.  My personal goal is to have a scanned set including the flaps for my website SNES Central.  The flaps, in particular the small ones on the side, give an indication of the release version.  I have a lot of other projects on the go right now (in particular, I am working on cart label scans), so I don't have a lot of time to edit these myself.  Here is a list of what I have:

I think I speak for everybody when I say everybody would be very grateful for any raws you provide. I'm especially fond of working on SNES boxart - though I usually do not include the flaps because of the UGC gamebox constraints.

If you want, though, I might take a crack at making an alternative cover that has the flaps included as if it were original.

I take it you have figured out how to upload these raws to the site, right?

Yeah, it shouldn't be a problem uploading those.  The flaps usually provide the best way of uniquely identifying games, which is what I need for my archives.  Of course, if people don't want to include the flap parts on this website, I would appreciate any scan of snes boxes with them intact, even if they are unedited.  I'll post when I upload anything.

I tried uploading a couple, but it isn't allowing me.  I have them saved as PNG and PNM files.

Save them as JPEGs and try to reupload them, it should work after that.

It seems rather silly to save as a jpeg before editing.

However, I will do that.  Just not at the moment.  Hopefully I can find something that does batch file conversions.

Doesn't the Raw uploading system allow PNG?

Weird, some parts of the scan have pixelation, while other parts are more clean

Are you saving these JPEGs on maximum setting in Photoshop?

I'll be honest, I used the Linux command line tool, convert. (sorry I took so long to respond, I have been rather busy with other things as of late).

This is why I like PNG, then I don't have to worry about it.  Bandwidth isn't a big problem when you are dealing with a raw image, as far as I am concerned.

Any possibility of receiving PNG's over my email? I might have some FTP space you can upload to as well.

badinsuits: I have been using Linux exclusively too and I keep getting complaints from tiktektak and others that the image quality is 'bad' or it's not 'descreened' properly or whatever. So, from now on to placate these people I will do all my editing work in Photoshop running in WINE.

I don't think there is an issue with Linux, just that the jpeg conversion was poor.  Typically when I do cart label scans (my main project, if anyone has scans of these edited at 300dpi, I welcome them), I scan at 600 dpi and edit with Gimp, then resize down.  I am usually not too picky about minor defects because I think it would drive me insane to edit them out (it is bad enough that the cart label has to be scanned in two parts and pieced back together, and any part that goes over the crease is nearly impossible to fix properly half the time).  For my website, I typically resize down 60% from the 300 dpi size:

As for the boxes, I'm uploading them to some personal website right now.  If someone wants to download them, send me a PM soon, as I will likely delete them after they are downloaded.
