Warning: Lots of Questions

1. Anybody have any experience using the dell laser printers? I was originally going to have a local office supply store print my case covers, But then decided against it due to costs. And this way i can print at my own Rate.

2. Is there a distinct advantage of using a laser printer vs. an ink-based one? (quality, drying time, etc.)

3. Is Gloss or Semi Gloss paper better? Also, any specific brands to use?

4. My Current printer is a HP Photosmart C5550 All-in-one, Is it going to be capable of producing high enough quality scans for the site?

5. If not, What kind of scanner should i get, without getting too pricey?

6. For creating covers and such, would photoshop elements be adequate, or do i need to step up to the full version?

7. Are there any programs that would be recommended over photoshop (or elements)?

I think that's all guys, and thanks for the help!

WARNING LOTS OF ANSWERS

1. Not with Dell.. I have a $200 Minolta color Laser printer that I use it often. Prints are good, but not as good as with an inkjet.

2. Cost is the main advantage. Laser prints are considerably cheaper (if your gona print A LOT).

3. I found that HP glossy presentation paper (for laser) gives me the best results for the money. Make sure whatever paper you use on a laser is not to thick or it will get stuck inside the machine. If you are going to use an inkjet printer, best if you get yourself some glossy paper. Printasia makes a very decent photo paper at a reasonable price.

4 and 5. All-in-ones usually do not have the best scanners. An Epson or Canon standalone would be a better choice, but if you are tight in cash your C5550 would do a fair job.

6 and 7. Best if you don't use elements, it's editing capabilities are somewhat limited and for the love of everything that is holy NEVER USE MS PAINT. GIMP and Paint.net is a decent alternative, but Fireworks, Paint Shop Pro or Photoshop would be ideal.

Also, if you are planing to start editing, please be patient and keep on trying... chances are your first work is gona be substandard and will be rejected (lots of my early work was). You will keep getting better as you work more and more on them. =)

Ohh and also....... WELCOME TO THE PROJECT
