Black ink bleeding issues with printer

I've been trying to finally chalk it up and print off my covers, but I'm running into an issue. I found some photo paper online that was just perfect for covers. It feels just like the paper used in PS2/Xbox/whatever official covers. So in this stead I would pray to GOD it's not the paper that causing my problem. When I print a cover in photoshop (I only make it borderless, landscape, photo quality), the black ink appears to go onto the paper too heavily and bleed into other areas. Bar codes look terrible as it stands with little distinction between the lines (especially the fine lines). It's a Lexmark x3550 printer (I'm looking into a Canon Pixma if it's a printer issue). I've changed the ink cartridges to no avail. I contacted support and this is the conversation I had:

[M47R1X] On my Lexmark x3550, when printing photos, black bleeds into colors and white. How do I fix this?
[M47R1X] This is on gloss photo paper with 34 black and 35 color. The color prints fine. It's the black that needs help. It's as if it's putting down too much black ink.
[Vhon] Welcome to Lexmark Chat Support. Hi my name is Vhon

[Vhon] Hi Michael!
[M47R1X] Hello
[Vhon] Just to verify your print color pictures right?
[M47R1X] Yes
[Vhon] The black cartridges produce ink more than usual right?
[M47R1X] It appears to be that way. The colors come out perfect
[Vhon] Did you just changed the black cartridge?
[M47R1X] About a month ago. I do have a spare. Should I change to that?
[Vhon] Yes lets see what will happen.
[Vhon] Just to isolate the problem
[M47R1X] Okay, I'll do that and be back in a few.
[Vhon] Take your time.
[M47R1X] Printing now
[Vhon] Great.
[M47R1X] Hmmm... problem still persists. Colors look great, black still bleeds. Will I need the 31 Black photo ink?
[Vhon] The black Photo ink is only enhancer of the color one.
[M47R1X] Ah, that probably wouldn't help.
[Vhon] But its up to you.
[Vhon] Here is the thing
[Vhon] If you are printing photo picture try to buy a new photo ink cartridge.
[Vhon] But if it will do the same contact us again and we will replace your printer.
[Vhon] If it will end to a upgrade replacement i will replace your printer and cartridges you bought.
[Vhon] Just ask for my name.
[M47R1X] Okay, great, thank you Vhon.
[Vhon] No problem
[Vhon] Thank you and have a nice day Michael.

Hahaha, yeah. I didn't buy it tho, it was a gift. I think I have it figured out somewhat. When I have photoshop manage the color, I don't have that bleeding issue with the black ink. BUT there are like 40 or so different ways to print with Photoshop managing color. The colors were less vibrant from the ones with bleeding black ink. I used Lab color. What would be a better choice?
