I personally don't trust Hyperkin stuff. The first thing that I ever got from them was a SupaBoy years ago that violently fried itself like a week after I got it. The only reason I even own a Retron5 is because I won it in a raffle and, after some preventative maintenance, it's honestly not bad but I won't be intentionally buying anything from them until their quality control goes WAY up. |

Also have a SupaBoy -- surprisingly enough it's lasted a number of years so far though an annoying 'feature' is that it doesn't tell you when battery is low, the screen just goes all weird on you. Had to google it just to realize that it wasn't actually defective, just was low on battery. ::) Retron5 is a neat idea but like I previously said, the edge connectors are so poorly manufactured and the power management IC is so shitty that they self destruct at an alarmingly high rate. Who knows, maybe this time around they'll do it right. But me thinks they're just like AtGames -- they never learn from their mistakes. |

Another thing with the retron5 is that it almost always erases save files from your carts >:( |

Yeah... people get real pissy about that (not surprisingly). There was a review on Amazon recently for a Sega Genesis Model 1 that someone left a 1 star for because "It couldn't read my save games! But it works fine in my retron!" Like uh, yeah dude, of course it 'works' in your retron5, it creates a ROM dump of your game and a save state. But yeah, maybe it's a bit too early for my generally cynical attitude toward dumbasses online. 0.0 |

I still use my Retron 5 to this day for any game I want save states for. Although I don't think I ever really bother transferring saves back and forth to the carts. I just use the save files the system has. |
