No point in having 2 versions of Final Fight series. I'll go with the uncensored SFam version. I'll take out Street Fighter 2 since it's pointless with Street Fighter 2 Turbo. I'm also curious if you guys have recommendations about the best versions of games. I know for instance that for the original Mortal Kombat, I'd prefer to play the Genesis version since it's uncensored. I know that for most games that came out on both SNES and Sega that people usually prefer SNES for a slight visual and sound upgrade. Any other games that came out for both systems were you guys prefer the Genesis version? |

You are correct - SNES was known for it's larger color palette and sample-based sound. In the case of Street Fghter II, the SNES version just pops as it is more colorful. I think you'd find the same with Mortal Kombat, lack of blood aside. For the Sports games that EA released as multi-platform titles, they generally played better on Genesis. In general the SNES is more colorful, can display larger sprites, and while subjective, a lot of people do like the sound more. The Genesis, however, can move more sprites without encountering slowdown (which is why it was the shmup lover's dream machine), and in the right hands, a sound producer could make the Yamaha FM Synthesis chip do amazing things - personally, I used to love putting on my headphones and listening to the 'Heatwaves' theme in Super Monaco GP's sound test mode. It was truly Golden to have been a very young adult during the 16-bit console war. I was the Sega guy, while my kid brother always had Nintendo consoles - so naturally, the Genesis was better. ;) |
