The later "Bourne" books are actually written by Eric van Lustbader; Ludlum's name is just used for marketing purposes.

I haven't read most of them, just a little of "Legacy", which was Lustbader's first book featuring the character. He seems to start with what Ludlum originally created, but branches off in his own direction. Like the previous films, the upcoming one uses Lustbader's title, but not the story.
