I have an xbox one x and want blood pumping, face melting sound late at night when fam is asleep. I like nice things so I'm willing to spend up to, but no more than $300. If there's something that offers 90% of the performance of an expensive headset for less than half the price, I would consider that. I don't care a lot about having ability to chat with people. I never use a mic when I game.

Wireless preferred

Suggestions?

Looking at Corsair Vengeance Void Pro and Phillips SHP9500S

  • ...and that's the bottom line
In my oppinion the best headset/headphone for gaming is the Beyerdynamic dt770 pro. Over ear headphone, doesn't have active noise cancelling but blocks out most of the noise from the "outside world". It's comparable to Phillips SHP9500S but after comparing both I'd say the beyerdynamic has the upperhand.

https://www.amazon.com/beyerdynamic-770-PRO-Studio-Headphone/dp/B0016MNAAI/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1533029082&sr=8-3&keywords=beyerdynamic+dt770+pro&dpID=41HP7R21I5L&preST=_SY300_QL70_&dpSrc=srch

It's $160 on Amazon.

There's a dedicated beyerdynamic gaming headset, the MMX300, which costs $260. But the MMX300 is just the DT770 pro with an added mic. So if you decide later that you want to add a mic, just get an Antlion Mod Mic for $50, which turns your DT 770 pro into an MMX300, for $50 less :).

I will be following this closely as I've been wanting to get exactly what you are describing.  A lot of my gaming is done when the rest of the family is asleep and I'm getting sick of ear buds.
Maybe, just once, someone will call me "sir" without adding, "you're making a scene."

I've had 2 pairs of the Astro a50s and I've loved em both. Great sound and super comfortable and surprisingly light weight. My head's a little later than average, and it's hard to find headphones that don't squeeze too much, but these are great
