Is it a CRT? If so, then yeah, old light gun setups should work fine.

Not all CRTs are good to go with light gun games.  The ones with flat screens (as opposed to curved) can be hit or miss.  I have a flat screen CRT Sony Trinitron and it works perfect with NES, SNES, Genesis, Saturn, PS1 and PS2 light guns.  However, I have some intermittent issues with the SMS light gun and the Super Scope Six does not work with it at all.  I'm not familiar with that specific model, but I would be willing to bet that most light guns will work with it, but don't expect the Super Scope Six to work.
Maybe, just once, someone will call me "sir" without adding, "you're making a scene."

Also, in my opinion, if the TV is free, take it and see if it works.  If it isn't perfect, keep it as a placeholder until you find a model that works.  That TV will be great for 99% of your retro gaming.

Interesting. I do not have either of those guns and I also have a flat-screen Trinitron. Good knowledge. What is it about these two guns specifically that doesn't play nice with a flat-screen Trinitron, for my own reference in case I get them in the future?

I'm pretty sure thats a really good TV.  I believe its a KV-FV29 model that has built in subwoofers judging by the bottom left  BBE icon.  I have the same one but 20"

So I own several sony Trinitron (4 to be exact)

if it is 4:3 aspect, so far so good.
if it is 16:9 aspect, No light gun
if it has hdmi, No light gun
if it is flat, the corners can prove to be a problem.
if it has an HD scaler inside (hard to tell but I think only 36 inch and up had this) then no Light gun.

The best one I have is a 26 inch Curved sony Trinitron

My 36 inch flat causes misses the closer you get to the bottom corners.

Looks good to me.  Do you know the model number?

From what I've read / researched, the absolute best Sony Trinitron series for retro gaming was the KV-XXFV310 series with the XX being the screen size.  So a 29 inch would be KV-29FV310.  These were some of the last SDTVs before the HD and ready for HD CRTs came out.
