| Best Buy Gamers Club Unlocked is shutting down |
| (1/2) > >> |
| Megatron:
So apparently there's a leak memo for Best Buy that states the Gamers Club Unlocked program, where members get 20% off new games, 10% off used games, and 10% bonus trade in on games, is basically done. The report states that current members will have the benefit for the duration of their membership, but no new members are being allowed, and people can no longer renew their membership. You can't even find it on the Best Buy website. |

Mark it: All of the "club discounts" you see on new software will cease to exist. Prime will eventually stop giving discounts on preorders(which itself is a far cry from their old discounts) now since Best Buy is back to full price. I wouldn't doubt publishers put a stop to it so no one has an unfair advantage in the marketplace. But then again, if you can muster the patience, you can nab most relatively new software for a significant discount a couple months after launch. |

It's not a big deal to me if Amazon follows. If I lose my pre-order discount, I simply won't pre-order anything any more. Outside of something that might be truly limited, that was the only reason I would use the pre-order anyway. |

It seems a bit drastic to me. I mean quick closing it and not even attempting to change it first. They could have upped the price in order to make it more worth their while. Yes it would be unpopular but so is just canning the whole idea. Best Buy had a lock on the gaming community in my area, and now it looks like they just gave it up. |
