silica gel packets

Does anyone else use silica gel packets in their game cases?  The house I bought has a finished basement.  The one room is sometimes damp in the summer, so I run a dehumidifier during those months.  I decided to put Dry & Dry silica gel packets in my cartridge game cases to absorb any moisture that may be in there.  They turn pinkish when they are saturated.  These things turned pink after less than a week.  Worried, I turned on the dehumidifier.  It didn't kick on because the humidity was less than 50%.  I put a packet in a game on my main floor.  That turned pink quickly too.  I know my living room isn't damp, so I'm convinced this product is garbage.  Anyway, I won't be buying this brand again.  Does anyone have a brand they'd recommend?  Are these silica gel packets even worth the hassle?

This link is what I bought:

TDIRunner:
When I get extras, I will throw them into my game cases, but I've never gone out of my way to buy them in bulk.  I find that my dehumidifier does the job in my basement to keep everything dry.
ShoothimNow:
I never had any interest in them until I found out my friends "in open air" filament after 2 years turned bad.  Every since, I've had Kelly grab handfuls (for free) where she works every other week.  Free is free
wiggy:
I glue one into EVERY game case.

Wiggy, is there a particular brand or size packet you'd recommend?  I was using the 1 gram packets.  I'll be changing brands though.
