So as I was cleaning up between loads of laundry today I started to reorganize my controllers that is in bins.  To my surprise I discovered that I had large number of controllers for systems. Here are a few of the strange ones:
1 Virtual on Sega saturn twin stick with dreamcast converter (and yes I want a 2nd set)
2 Steel battalion setups
9 Playstation 1 controllers ( 2 of them are for the Psone  mini console)
2 Playstation one multi taps
6 Dual shock 2 controllers
6 dualshock 3 controllers
4 arcade sticks for the dreamcast
4 Atari Jaguar controllers and a multi tap
just to name a few

so I have 2 questions.

1) how the hell am I suppose to store all these and keep them nice and handy?
2) What controller insanity do you have?

That's a lot of controllers right there.

I'd imagine something like one of those ottoman/foot stools with a bit open storage compartment inside it would hold a good number of controllers to have them readily accessible.  Get some foam core board and section off the inner compartment to keep things a bit more organized.  Then just stick the extra ones in a storage bin in the closet.

Or get yourself one of those cheap nightstand with drawers at Walmart and use foam board to section off the drawers for a nice, hidden, quick access controller storage cabinet.

I've always like the idea of a peg board hung on the wall and hooks to hold the controllers that you use most often as well.

Don't really have much of a controller insanity myself.  Not anymore.  Back when I had a bunch I used the nightstand method.  Found a really nice one at a Salvation Army thrift store for just $10.  Another $10 in spray paint and foam board and I had me a real nice, custom controller storage.  Can't seem to find the pics I had taken of it now, otherwise I'd post them here.

In other news, if you're looking at whittling down a bit, I'd be happy to take one or two of those PS3 DualShocks off your hands if the price is right.  :)

Sorry I had to search for 8 months to find the 6 I wanted. Gamestop keeps trying to pass off chinese knockoffs as real controllers.  I have a player 2 setup for my gameroom with local net play in mind with my 2nd ps3.

Right now I am not looking to sell, but if you really wanted to get one I would take $80 plus fees and shipping, but like I said I am not looking to sell.

PS3 controllers are getting really rare in Alabama, I have only seen 2 in the wild (local mom and pop stores) this year, and they are sold separately from the 5 ps3 systems they have.

I use a few of these carts.  I don't use the wheels and I stack the carts on top of each other.  I print out logos of the systems and tape them on the front of each drawer so that I can easily identify each console's controllers.  If I have a bunch of controllers for a system, I'll also place two controllers in a large Ziplock freezer bag just so the cords don't get tangled.

No worries.  They're impossible to find around here too.  Even the local GameStop only had one and they still wanted $50 for it.

I keep them in plastic drawers like the ones in the first two links below.  I'll take some pictures tomorrow to give you an idea of how I keep them organized, but as a general rule of thumb, I have one drawer per console, or in a few cases two different consoles in one drawer.  As long as you keep the wires bundled up, it's pretty easy to keep it organized.  The drawers just happen to be the perfect height to also act as end tables for my couch and recliner.  For larger accessories that wont' fit in the drawers, I have some matching storage containers (third link).

It's a little messy, but it works well.  I can get to just about anything I need quickly and easily.  The only stuff boxed up elsewhere is my old Guitar Hero/Rock Band stuff and a PS1 racing wheel.

<-- If anything I have is checked as "Case/Box", I will scan it if you ask nicely... I'm pretty slow about getting things done though.  Laziness.
