GScartSW_Lite Back In Stock: Cables Questions

Pages: (1/1)

ShoothimNow:

For Christmas I bought myself a FrameMeister.  I haven't touched it and it's almost March, ugh.

I have been looking for a SCART selector for months and SuperG finally has some more GScartSW_Lite's back in stock (Forum Link / Purchase Page Link).

I have ZERO consoles modded with RGB, and I understand that specific consoles WILL be needed to be modded to output SCART, I just need some help.

List of Consoles that output RGB as standard via the AV port:
Nintendo

* SNES (mk1)
* Gamecube
Playstation

* PS1 / PSone
* PS2
SEGA

* Master System
* Megadrive / Genesis (all models)
* Saturn
* Dreamcast (and VGA)
List of Consoles that DON'T support RGB naturally:
Nintendo

* NES
* N64
I need to buy cables (the GScartSW_Lite doesn't like C-Sync cables or something?) and I need to mod my two Nintendo systems.

Any help with this would be fantastic.  I don't like to buy shit, but I also understand that the most expensive cables are not always the best.  If someone could break down the list and mark what to exactly purchase, that would be fantastic.

for the N64 RGB mods, I understand that the THS7374 is easy to solder (awesome, because I suck at it), but the more advanced N64RGB board allows De-Blur.... ugh, I don't know where to go next.

Again, I have the FrameMeister and just ordered the GScartSW_Lite.  Looking to hook up a bunch of consoles, just need to know what to buy next (Cables / boards).

Thank you all in advance

First thing I'd do is hitup Retrorgb.com and they'll tell you what's rgb, what type of sync it uses, and what kind of cables to get for it

ShoothimNow:

Oh, I understand RGB  ;D  I'm just figuring we have some anal people on here that have already worked these problems out  ::)

Regular shielded vs PACKAPUNCH PRO.

Money really isn't an issue, I just don't know what others have come up with.

Quotes from SuperG:

--- Quote ---PS1/PS2: don't pick "csync" cable because it has LM1881 sync cleaner integrated, you don't want to process your signal twice. You're left with two choices, cvbs (composite) or sync-on-luma, pick whichever one you want. I personally use cvbs.
--- End quote ---

^ ^ ^ This is utmost greek to me...

--- Quote ---Well, the general rule is don't get anything with integrated sync processing. If console outputs csync natively, you can get it. If not, pick another cable. I prefer cvbs, but that's just me.

--- Quote ---This.
To summarize: get individually shielded cables to get better image quality, don't get cables with integrated sync stripping IC. My personal advice is to get composite sync version cable for Saturn, some people had troubles with their Saturns. Properly mod your consoles, check retrorgb.com.

PACKAPUNCH is overkill, but probably the best, and just... don't get any with Csync it seems as double sync processing will kill quality...  If the console outputs csync natively (will have to figure this out), I could get the cable, but might as well 'not'.

I am fine with this (will make the total upgrade close to $900).  But I don't know if these are worth it, or if there are better cables on the market, etc.

Hesch:

It's not just RGB that's on that site. He talks about versions of sync and what types of cables to get for each system. And the shielded packapunch cables always seem highly recommended
