Looking to help, where would be a good place to start?
triverse:
Ok, I have a lot of experience with Gimp from my time with www.retromags.com (same username) and feel pretty confident that I could help out here some when I have the time. Covers being much smaller projects, I think it would be a good way to break up the editing of magazines.
I also have been wondering, I have a couple of older PC games, they came in the huge boxes from back then, any tips on converting those over to DVD case designs? I have a bunch of those and none are on here yet (may be because it is more work than it is worth).
Thanks in advance

I did a Star Trek MS-Dos compilation that was in a huge box. As luck would have it, the manual was more or less the same piccie but a far more manageable size. Dunno if thats the case for you.Could be 'trawl the net for piccies' time otherwise. Good luck ;)

hah I'm planning on doing the same with a lot of the games from when I was a kid. There's a huge space being taken up of just boxes and I'd wanna convert to DVD then hopefully sell them. Seeing as mine are just old toy story games I won't really mind cutting up the boxes, but I don't know about you.

Most of mine are collectables, like the Indiana Jones adventure games (I have two of those), a great many Sierra and other LucasArts games that I picked up at a yard sale and other places. Just generally stuff not many people are bothering to work on, either from lack of having access to material or interest. In short, cutting the boxes up is kind of out of the question (I feel the same way about my original copies of Gamefan that I scan for Retromags, just can't bring a knife to them).

I love turning those old boxes into DVD covers, I don't understand why you would cut them up. I just put them on the scanner without cutting the box and scan them. I don't know how other people go about it, but I just resize them to DVD standard, try to make the spine not look squished, clean up any blemishes that might be on them. I've done some of those old games though, like the Yoda Stories ones and the Monkey Island and Sam & Max Adventure games. They got downloaded a lot more than the covers I do for newer games so I imagine theres a demand for them if thats what you want to do.
