Game or Console?

Those are the exception, not the rule.  Variants, whether they be console or game, always have the potential to be scarce.  Just look at something like Nintendo WOrld Championship Gold or International Version of Yoshi's Island.  Maybe not as uncommon as those systems you mentioned, but I wouldn't expect to stumble across these very often.
Standard releases of consoles, from my experience, are much easier to come by.  I can't think of a single standard console that I have sought out and never found.  Games, on the other hand, always appear random.  Then take in to account box, manual, etc. and things get more difficult.

Anyway, I usually go with consoles myself.  But a great game find (say, a sealed mint copy of Hagane) can also be rather intoxicating.

Well we are taking about rare items, are we not?   Otherwise the argument can go the other way. Which is to say that common games are readily available. I don’t think either a Jungle green N64 Or copy of SMB3 with a manual are what the Dr. was taking about ;)

I was just pointing out that extreme rarity exists on both ends :)

What is the console and game? Why so mysterious?
Dr.Agon:
I'm keeping it vague to keep people's interest, I think, if you include Me, only 3-4 members would be interested in these items, so the more people giving thoughts/opinions the better!

Here's my current thinking on them;

Until I get the console in my hands and start to get games for it I don't know if its something I'll use regularly or if its just going to be a curio "company X tried this, it failed, but isn't that cool?"

The game is the cheapest I've seen it anywhere, well below market value, its a sequel to a game I already have, I enjoy the genre, it came out on better hardware than the first one, and from YouTube let's play's it looks awesome, but even though its cheap it is still twice the price of the console...

At the moment it's 51/49,  game/console, but I still have a few days to decide...
