Hey guys, I have a question.  My big collecting goal right now is to acquire all the NA NTSC PS1 RPG titles (that is a lot of acronyms in a row).  I have the majority of them and am winding down, however it is difficult finding a cohesive list for what counts as an RPG.   Below I have put the list I have been going off of for my collection (emboldened means I still need to acquire it).  Can anyone think of any titles that are not on this list that should qualify?  I'd appreciate any input anyone has, as there are certain titles (like Blood Omen) that I originally did not think would count, but have been persuaded to include.  This is my last big collecting goal for a while, and while I am in no rush to complete it, I want to be able to definitively say that I caught them all.

The list I have so far...again, looking for US releases only.

SotN is a pretty far cry from an RPG.

Nectaris probably qualifies for the list.

I don't disagree. But you may be surprised as to how many "official" lists out there include it. My guess would be because of the leveling up and stats features. I figure I'd rather have the list be too big than overlook something. Besides, I already had the game so it doesn't really matter.

Thanks for the suggestion.  I will check out Nectaris.   :)

Gran Turismo 1 & 2 :P

But really, Gauntlet Legends maybe?

Also the Deception games have RPG elements I believe.

Mega Man Legends 1?
Mega Man Legends 2?

With an open world, and weapon/armor progression, and story line, I personally would classify them as RPG.

As stated above... ehhh... SOTN is a stretch... as thats really not... open world... (along with story line?  I mean.... kill Death / Dracula), but still

What about Devil Dice?

You ROLL dice while PLAYING the GAME.

Anyone................?

I'll see myself out.
Maybe, just once, someone will call me "sir" without adding, "you're making a scene."

Thanks for the advice so far.  I've updated the list accordingly. Luckily for me, all but one of the suggestions I already own.

And just for the record, I am not looking to publish my own list, or claim these titles as definite RPGs.  I just want to make sure I have all of them.  So if someone can make a good argument for why it should be included, I'll likely pick it up.
It's kind of hard when there is no true definitive list.  With collecting, say N64 games, there is a clear cut off point - is it a N64 game or not?  Pretty straight forward.  Grey areas make it a little tougher to have a total set.  So I definitely appreciate the help!

I would consider SotN in the RPG because of the equipment and leveling system, but that’s just me I guess.
Looks like a pretty complete list though. You’re so close!
What are you looking at? You think baby's don't like video games? THEN YOU DON'T KNOW SHIT ABOUT BABIES!!

By that measure, you can start calling games like Soul Calibur, Gran Turismo, Ace Combat, etc RPGs.

My definition of RPG is the usual one. Games where you don't control the fighting directly, you just choose from a menu and watch.

so then... Chessmasters would be an RPG for you.  Add it to the list!

I'm usually open to others' opinions.
But I'm drawing the line.   :P

Or an L for the knight!  Sit back and watch from afar with this indirect fighting RPG
