Does anyone else collect manuals or instruction booklets? I ask because I'm a pretty big SNES/N64 manual hunter and lately it's been seeming like a huge hit or miss on pricing. Sometimes I can find lots of manuals for dirt cheap, and other times I have to pay through the nose to get one I need. I know ebay auctions can be finicky, but I sold 6 first party Nintendo game manuals in a bid and only made $9. If I sold them individually going by the lowest buy price I could easily make ~$40. Why the huge discrepancy? My only thoughts are maybe there's such a small minority of people who collect manuals that the bid/ask spread can be huge if you don't get the right buyer.

Anyone else experience this same thing or also collect manuals?

I collect manuals and yeah asking prices vary.

One lot I bought maybe 3 years ago averaged maybe 3-4 bucks per manual and included 7 mint Zelda 3 manuals with map and secret leaflet and some other nice ones.

People ask idiotic prices on stuff on ebay.

For example I checked CIB prices of rarer Genesis game that was mentioned on the boards maybe week ago.

Noticed that someone was selling repro manual for it for 12 bucks + shipping and another member asked 250+ bucks also mentioning it was repro manual...

That's a sweet deal for $3-4 a manual with 7 Zelda manuals. I try to aim for spending less than $5 per manual, but it's getting harder and harder it seems if there's only one game you want. You come out way ahead if you just buy random lots and re-sell off what you don't need it seems.

$250 for a repro manual?? Wow that's just insane. What really sucks is that anyone who thinks games are hard to find in the wild would be hard-pressed to find manuals consistently out at yard sales and flea markets or craigslist/facebook. I seem to only find them online. The one retro game store I have nearby I bought out their entire stockpile from their years of buying and nobody wanting them lol. That was a holy grail find at least, got 10+ first party N64 and SNES manuals for around $20 total.

I don't collect manuals specifically, but if I see a manual for a game I own at a good price I'll usually pick it up. Like just last weekend the local hobby shop had one for Centipede and I grabbed it for a buck. And I always check for a manual when I buy used "disc format" games. For older cartridge based games, I have acquired quite a collection of digitally scanned manuals over the years, since finding the original manuals are so difficult. If you're ever so motivated, it'd be amazing to have a scanned archive of your collection similar to what member TSOLFan did over at ratigators.com.

I've had awesome luck buying item lots on eBay over the years. It's a great way to get good deals, and if you're willing to resell the unwanted items it can even be profitable. Are manual repros common on eBay? I'd imagine that could become a problem if unscrupulous sellers start misrepresenting them as originals.

I have scanned few of my manuals, like this:

All my manuals are stored away right now, but if I come across the box where they are I can scan more.

Here is my main folder:

And there might be few more on the boards,
