TDIRunner:
When you "die" you revert back to a person, but I don't recall any type of story indicating that they started out as people who were transformed into monsters. Just good old fashion video games without stories.

exactly, don't recall that story either
Arseen:
From Wikipedia
--- Quote ---Up to three simultaneous players control gigantic monsters who were formerly human. The game's protagonists are George, a King Kong-like gigantic gorilla transformed by an experimental vitamin, Lizzie, a Godzilla-like dinosaur/lizard transformed by a radioactive lake, and Ralph, a giant werewolf transformed by a food additive.

This matches my recollection of playing the game in Lego Dimensions' Midway Arcade Level Pack.
Megatron:
On the character select screen it shows a "file photo taken before mutation." VERY brief explanation of what happened. George (ape) was transformed by a science experiment, Lizzy (Lizard) was transformed by a radioactive lake and Ralph (Wolf) was transformed by food.
So they WERE people, and when you "died" you transformed back into a naked person and slowly shuffle off screen. This movie seems to have done away with that premise. Which, honestly, I don't care about.
TDIRunner:
Yeah, that sounds familiar now. But regardless, none of the story really matters. It's just an excuse to destroy a bunch of CGI buildings.
