You really have to wonder if anyone making this movie actually ever played the game Rampage, considering it ignores absolutely everything about it.

So I hadn't heard of this movie until you posted that trailer...I'm not gonna lie.  I kind of want to see it.  I don't have any moderate expectations, just one of those "watch things go boom" movies.  Plus, the Rock.  Looks like a decent Sunday afternoon outing

Wow! Rampage is one of my childhood favorites. I can't believe they're making a movie based on the arcade game. I might go and see this movie when it comes out in April 2018. If you want to see a cool movie about arcade games, watch Pixels. That movie blew me away and made me even more happy to be a retro gamer.

I thought that rampage game was all about a giant gorilla, a lizard and a wolf Wrecking buildings and the army trying to stop them. It seems like the movie have that part cover. Other thing is that to make a movie about rampage game is a bit difficult as the first part I mention is the hole story of the game, so you will have to add a lot of stuff to make the movie interesting to people.

I got served an Instagram ad for this movie.  Why it exists is simply beyond my comprehension.

Honestly, it doesn't look nearly as bad as I figured it would.  I can definitely see myself streaming this movie through Netflix in my garage while I'm working on the truck.
Maybe, just once, someone will call me "sir" without adding, "you're making a scene."

Yeah, I think you're mis-remembering the game. There really is no story to it other than 3 giant animals/monsters destroying a city. Something like Donkey Kong technically has more story than that.

In the game though weren't they people that were transformed into the monsters? I feel like they just made them animals instead so that The Rock would have something to kill without the idea that it was a person who had no control over it.
To be this good it takes AGES!

I don't recall that...But the trailer clearly shows the rock isn't trying to kill them. He's trying to stop them (at least George) from getting killed.

When you "die" you revert back to a person, but I don't recall any type of story indicating that they started out as people who were transformed into monsters.  Just good old fashion video games without stories.

From Wikipedia

Quote
Up to three simultaneous players control gigantic monsters who were formerly human. The game's protagonists are George, a King Kong-like gigantic gorilla transformed by an experimental vitamin, Lizzie, a Godzilla-like dinosaur/lizard transformed by a radioactive lake, and Ralph, a giant werewolf transformed by a food additive.

This matches my recollection of playing the game in Lego Dimensions' Midway Arcade Level Pack.

On the character select screen it shows a "file photo taken before mutation."  VERY brief explanation of what happened.  George (ape) was transformed by a science experiment, Lizzy (Lizard) was transformed by a radioactive lake and Ralph (Wolf) was transformed by food.

So they WERE people, and when you "died" you transformed back into a naked person and slowly shuffle off screen.  This movie seems to have done away with that premise.  Which, honestly, I don't care about.

Yeah, that sounds familiar now.  But regardless, none of the story really matters.  It's just an excuse to destroy a bunch of CGI buildings.
