So, I've been recasing some stuff and came across a PS2 cover that had a little bit of surface damage that I bought pre-owned. Now, the game in question was the collectors edition of Primal (say what you will about the game, at least the PAL (don't know about NTSC) collectors edition has a nice cover). Anywho, this got me thinking, what should I do about this? Scanning/Printing holographic, metallic or other specialist surfaces is well beyond my capability and was wanting some advice. What do you guys do (if you've ever come across this problem)? Does it even matter? In my opinion, probably not if its something like GTA IV which had a subtle mount of shinyness around the lettering. But what if its Kingdom Hearts II or a limited edition cover that has an entire holographic or metallic cover? Anyone who can help me or recommend some suitable alternatives will get a (fictional) medal. nodge2k |

Scanning shiny/metallic surfaces is almost impossible in good quality.... This is due to the technique used in scanners I suppose.... |

Yup, unfortunately Tik is right. The results of scanning holographic or metallic covers are underwhelming at best. If you want to replace the cover your best bet would be to have a custom cover and completely abandon the holographic style or buy another copy of the game on eBay or the likes with an intact cover. |

Shame. I spend enough on video games as it is without buying duplicates. Especially when some limited editions go for extortionate prices. |

At least I know with the Kingdom Hearts series that the greatest hits releases are all non-holographic versions. You could always do a custom of the greatest hits version wit the black bar on top. Otherwise, try to preserve that holographic case as much as you can :P |
