I came across that site before.....never went back, Its just a bunch of kids putting Halo characters on old Nintendo boxes.

Here's a good example....Assassin Hearts... Someone put Link of the Zelda series with a shield that has the mickey mouse logo on it....with a Keyblade.....on a 360 cover....

There are 3000+ covers listed for ps3, 360 and Wii

I saw near 30 covers for various non existing Grand theft auto games for ps3.
No Purpose

the site might as well be JUST custom covers for fake games...or at least specify whats original and whats custom

Are you a site admin or something? Anyway...

That site is completely different from this one. This site aims to preserve original game art as well as offer a classy method with which to organize and store our beloved titles. VGBoxArt is a site for fantasy art covers that have no real use other than entertainment.

I'm not saying VGBoxArt is bad or anything...just saying it's kind of unfair to compare the two when they are entirely different things. Aside from that, if you want my personal opinion of the site, I wish VGBoxArt's covers were uploaded to standard resolutions and sizes for each console in printable format. While the vast majority of the stuff up there isn't very good (no offense to the artists), there are several gems in there that I'd love to actually use on my actual games...but I can't. In terms of just looking at covers, I prefer browsing this site a lot more because not only do I know that if I find something cool I can always actually use it, but also because this site has a majority of quality work. A lot of the work on VGBoxArt is just cut-and-pasted art that breaks the style of the games whose titles are plastered on with incorrect font. On this site, each cover moves to preserve the original game, since the covers are destined to provide a housing for the game. On VGBoxArt, any child that can type "super smash bros mewthree" in Microsoft Paint can post a cover. (Believe me, I've seen a good share of MSPaint abominations on that site.)

In the end, it doesn't really matter. You can't use any of the covers on VGBoxArt, so everything is purely for fun. When I criticize VGBoxArt, it's in the context of actually using the covers. In the context of doing nothing with them and posting them for fun...I really don't care. Most of VGBoxArt is of minimal quality.

I can't stand that site. They have no quality control whatsoever, nor do they check if the cover is actually an original composition.

Case in point:

Look familiar? Well, it should...

http://www.thecoverproject.net/view.php?game_id=5852

How about this one?

http://vgboxart.com/view/19156/sonic.adventure.2/?replies=18

Now where have I seen that before?

Oh, yeah! Here:

http://www.thecoverproject.net/view.php?game_id=3817

and here:

http://www.thecoverproject.net/view.php?cover_id=7260

Look familiar don't they. And if you read the comments you'll see that I've asked them to remove them and oddly enough, they are still there. There are others, but those two are ones that really erked me.

I've never seen that site before but it does look like there is the occasional custom cover I wouldn't mind having if they were only put in the proper format, but yeah most of it is crap

Yeah, seems like a waste of time. Ran across it multiple times trying to find a site like this. I do not need a cover for Mario 64 on the playstation, thank you.

One interesting custom cover I saw was FFX redesigned for a jewel case, but the template was a mess and doesn't even seem worth trying for.

Yeah, I figured there was probably some of TCP's covers stolen on there somewhere, but I just hadn't run across any. A shame that it was your work, too. :(

Stealing covers happens all the time.  Lumberjack42, Vt102 and my own (to name a few) covers are found all over with someone else trying to take credit.  It gets under my skin sometimes and almost make me want to put my logo on the covers i make but i'm against that in general.

About VGBoxArt.com it is plagued with very low quality and just flat out odd covers.  I know the artists try but if i try to play in the NFL it doesn't mean i should make the cut.

I've read through a few forums and comments about their covers.  Some bash TCP and say that our standards our unjust and their covers got rejected so they uploaded them to VGBoxArt.  Good for them, they found a place to upload their MS Paint "covers".  Just about all of the covers on their site would not meet the same standards we stand by.

I'm not trying to diss all of their artist, just the majority need better programs to make their covers with and more time with the programs.

LJ, your FDS covers have also apparently become the standard of the internet :-/ custom template and everything

GameFAQs DDP
Wikipedia DDP (cached, apparently they deleted the DDP page)
LJ's cover here

ive seen other FDS games like this too, i just dont feel like looking for them again and DDP was an easy example

BACK ON TOPIC, I'm not a fan either. Even if you do find the 1 in 1000 half decent looking covers on that site, they're almost always garbage quality and covered with spelling errors...

Yeah. I stumbled across the site whilst looking for a cover (which I incidentally found here and became familiar with TCP) and was appalled by the quality. Sure it's a good concept for younger people wanting to hone their photoshop/graphic design talent. But the flaming in the comments (which could easily be changed for constructive criticism) and the overall general standard made it not my scene.

Also, plagiarism is something that really gets my beef. Especially when most, if not all, of the artwork on this site has been made by people who go out of their daily schedule to do such an awesome job. I for one appreciate all the work that's done here as I have tried and failed many times before with certain graphic design projects. Therefore, when people take this and pass it off as their own really irks me. I wouldn't even like to imagine how livid and/or upset you guys are who actually made the artwork.

Therefore, good site concept, but the average manner of the internet seems to pull the website down a fair bit in my estimation.

Just my two cents. nodge2k.

yeah I don't understand the point of that website, PS3 covers for Final fantasy VII ? it won't even fit in the case very confusing! It seems like there talent could be used at this website to create cases people can actually use very weird.

Yeah some of the covers are just put up for fun, but the annoying thing is when you find a cool custom, you can't even print it because almost all of them are just in shiny preview format. Imagine this site consisting of all imandix previews. Now wouldn't that suck?
