Removing stickers and adhesive from CD
WatcherJoshua:
I have a small problem I suspect that some of you have encountered. Can anyone give advice for removing stickers and adhesives from a CD? In this case, it is specifically a set of Playstation 1 discs.
I bought a complete copy of Final Fantasy 7 the other day. It arrived today and everything looks great...except that there are large mailing labels stuck right in the middle of each disc. It looks like the labels were added to prevent the discs from falling out of the jewel case, but when I started removing one, it was obviously not going to come off clean - so I stopped.
I did a little bit of searching online and found a few options, but I wasn't sure how fragile PS1 discs tend to be. I'm sure Goo Gone will work, I'm just paranoid about destroying the disc. This was the last Final Fantasy game I needed for my set. >_>

Yeah... so... I had a Family Video sticker (when they did stickers for PS2 games) on Dirge Of Cerberus: Final Fantasy 7 and I VERY CAREFULLY peeled it off. At one point in pulling the sticker off (no goo gone or anything), the STICKER was so adhered to the top of the game, that the sticker easily peeled the label. Sucks.
Same thing with Astal for Sega Saturn.
However, I have had about 5 others that peeled off perfectly fine.
I would just be careful.

Maybe lightly soak the sticker in rubbing alchohol and then take a straight razer to it?

Heptane.

Personally, I've just learned to live with rental stickers on discs. Removing them is just such a huge risk.
