Hi, so about a month ago I was in the process of making a GBA cover when I realized that I can't access the layers of a template (.psd file).
I'm stuck with Photoshop CS2 and I assume the template was made in a newer version of PS, which means it isn't fully compatible?
I've tried various programs, all of which either won't run on my old laptop or aren't fully compatible with .psd files :(

If someone could upload just the gameboy advance border in .png format, that would be great.
Just to be clear, I need the front border with the drop shadow effect, and a transparent background.

Here's the template: http://www.mediafire.com/file/68gdupa68qfluqf/Template+for+GB%2C+GBC+and+GBA+cover+%28PAL%29+%28EU-NDS%29.psd

The template was posted by PX0 in this thread: http://www.thecoverproject.net/forums/index.php?topic=20283.0

That's odd. I used to use cs2 along with the templates from this site with no problem with layers.  Perhaps the maximize compatibility option wasn't checked when the latest version of the template file was saved.

I'll try saving it with compatibility options for you, but I won't get around to it until tomorrow.  I use cs6 now btw.

I am using a newer version of Photoshop.
And yeah, "maximum compatability" was turned off in the options for some reason.  ???

I have activated that now and reuploaded the template.
If it still does not work, please say so, then I will think of something else. :)

This is also a newer version of my template. It contains a few more additional icons and logos.

I really appreciate the help guys! but unfortunately, I'm still unable to view the layers of the template ???

basically, I double click on the file then I get "Unknown data has been encountered reading layer "Background" and will be discarded"
then I have three options "OK" "Cancel" or "Read composite data".

It would be great if I was able to use PX0's template, but I need the border more than anything else.

When I tried opening PX0's template I got the same error. I said "ok" and it did open, but some layers apparently didn't load.
Here's the banner as a PNG file. I don't know why the preview image has the white bar, but when I downloaded it everything looked fine. Let me know if you have any issues. Just a head's up, the purple text and spine logo doesn't match the majority of GBA covers on the site, so there probably won't be much demand for covers that use it.

EDIT: I just followed the link in PX0's signature, I didn't realize he'd put together such a collection of covers! Disregard my comment about the mismatched banner, clearly there's quite the operation underway with this template!

Right, so apparently if I press the "OK" button a bunch of times, I'm then able to view some of the layers. I tried this before with an older version of the template, and I believe I just ended up with a blank image. So this time around, when I tried to open the updated template, I thought I would get the same result. Maybe the "maximum compatibility" setting still doesn't make it fully compatible with Photoshop CS2? I don't know, this stuff is a little bit over my head as I'm somewhat new to Photoshop.

And thank you so much! ;D When I finally get around to finishing some covers, I'll share them in PX0's thread. The quality of the covers may not be good enough for the main site though.

I downloaded Photoshop CS2 and I think, I know what the issue is.
Apparently CS2 cannot handle vector layers of newer Photoshop versions.

So I have gone through the whole template and converted every vector layer into raster images.

This should work for CS2 now:
