Honestly I find this artwork so-so... not to disrespect the artist's work or anything like that.
The premise is pretty interesting and the poses are quite dramatic but I can't get over that
"slick, new-age" anime style, and by new age I mean post 2000.  I prefer more old-school
anime, like all the way back from SFII.  But if you're really drooling over this artwork every night
I'll just slap it right on there and everybody will have one more cover to choose from.  :-D

What do you think about the two ideas I posted, pros cons?

I actually linked Benimaru's original design. The Leopard shirt he wore in most games after is a different story, but his classic look was pretty solid. I liked the flamboyancy; it showed that the designers had balls and wanted to try different things.

Making a fighter to cater to the tourny crowd ain't my cup of tea. When I get a new game, I go straight for the new characters. To me, that's what makes a new game and new game, as opposed to a remix of an old game. Anytime I see a tournament match for Third Strike that consists of Ryu, Ken or Chun Li, (Read: ALL OF THEM) I yawn and lose interest. I may as well be watching a Street Fighter 2 tournament. I trained myself to be competent with Elena and Dudley in tournaments FOR THAT VERY REASON. I got so sick of seeing Shotokans in the tournies, plus everybody else was overly used to it as well. When they finally got to me, they had to think of a different way of fighting.

Variety is the spice of life. Take the spice out, and you have stagnation.

Ya know what would have made this game so much more agreeable to me? If they hadn't left off a certain part of the name.

They are calling it Street Fighter 4.
It should be called Street Fighter EX 4.

As for the Street Fighter movie... ugh, I saw a commercial for it, and those fireball effects look pretty pathetic. Not Dragonball: Evolution pathetic, but still pretty bad. I'm sure it is meant to coincide with the release of SF4, but I doubt it'll do more than that.

Seriously, at the tournaments how many people are gonna use Karen, or Mika, or Rolento?
Usually it boils down to the usual suspects like Ruy, Ken, & Chun Li.

I've seen some pretty cool tournament matches of people using Alex or Urien and dominating with them. A-Groove Rolento from Capcom Vs SNK 2 is a beast and if someone knows how to fight with him you're in serious trouble. It's like the7k said, these characters are more predictable since everyone knows them. That's not to say that it's easy to fight them. I got my ass handed to me playing online vs Ryu or Ken on SF II HD Remix quite some times. And I've seen a tournament match where someone using Ken, with a very low health bar, parried(!) Chun Li's super move in its entirety(!!!) then counters and wins the thing. But if I were to fight against Elena I'd reconsider my tactic since she's more difficult to predict.

When I get SF IV I'll go straight for El Fuerte and try to lear his moves since I love Luchadores and their swift, energetic moves. Plus he reminds me of El Blaze from Virtua Fighter 5 which was my favourite character :)

I like the one with the pencil drawings better in its current state. The black one is alco cool but the big Ryu image on top is very dominating. Maybe you could use the same concept as in the other cover and have the newcomers on the upper half instead of that Ryu image. Or something completely different. But that's just me. I'm sure some people will love it this way. I mean, we have like 13+ Wii Sports covers, I think there's room for a few SF IV covers ;)

--- Quote from: the7k on February 12, 2009, 07:01:21 PM ---I remember seeing fan art for how people though Ryu and Sakura would look in SF4; Ryu wearing Heihachi-style geta shoes, a baggy hakama, no shirt and an insanely long red bandana, while Sakura was presented as being the gym teacher for Justice High School, with gym shorts, sweat shirt and a training whistle, plus her trademark white bandana and gloves.

You wouldn't happen to have this, would you? It sounds pretty sweet.
