It's so great to hear about Shadowfox coming out with Sega Game Gear cases. I've been waiting for those cases. I'm drooling at the thought. I would prefer the cases to be the same height and thickness as the retail boxes. This way, we don't have to stretch the artwork. Once the cases are made and someone (such as Moviefan2k4) makes a template for it, I'll start making Game Gear covers too. This will give me something new to do.

Just checked, wonderswan and game gear games are exactly the same width, so side clips in a GG case will definitely hold Wonderswan carts.

for retail dimensions, game gear is 15.5x11x2.5cd
wonderswan is 11x8.8x2cm

So, using the GG case for wonderswan is a bit overkill in size, but I would guess most peoples GG collections are larger than WS collections - certainly for me, I would have no concerns using a retail sized GG case for my WS.  If the GG cases end up genesis sized, I would probably leave them in DS cases.

I think that a combo GG/Sega card case is a pretty neat idea!  As far as the shelf space, I don't see it being such a problem.  It's like a Genesis case but thinner, and probably thinner than an actual GG box.  I do get that it may be a little overkill for the GG carts (heck, the Sega Card cases are overkill for the cards, themselves) but this is a decent option.

That being said, my biggest concern would be image quality when stretched to Genesis dimensions. And my personal preference would be for CGC GG cases to be the same dimensions as the GG cardboard boxes.  It would be odd to have such a difference when lining my cardboard box GG games up with Sega Card cases.

But, you know, if we are going to have an oversized GG clamshell anyway... why not go all out and make it a GG/32X combo?  ;)

Edit: I will be buying a few cases regardless of what size they are.

I guess my biggest issue with the combo GG/Sega Card case is that there were literally only 10 card games released in the west.  Why use that size as the basis for a system that has over 350 releases?

I know there where more Sega Cards released in Japan, but those came in a box much closer in size to GG, but even shorter.  And if there's a risk that the card case would need to be thicker to accommodate GG manuals, then for me it doesn't really fit the bill for either.

Honestly at this point in my collecting I'm all about saving space so my vote would be to shrink the size of the case as much as possible even if it doesn't line flush with genesis games (not like i store them next to each other anyways...)

I'm all for smaller = better, the current dimensions don't sound bad but I would consider something like the WS instead of the cards if you're going for muliti-platform. I don't mind the current sizes you've laid out, I'd be in for a preorder of 50 once I could see some pictures.

And I'm not worried about the art needing tweaked, it's going to have to be redone a lot anyways, and will be very easy if there is a template like Fusion's. I don't think many other cases have exact dimensions so there is some give and take anyways
Of course I'm not the guy that's going to be doing this stuff in bulk when it comes to art so I guess I don't really get a say lol

Good to hear you're back on the horse again man

The problem will be for some of us that like a retail look. Will be easier if is something closer to the dimensions of the retail box  ;)

Okay, so I have nixed the SEGA Card holder in the GameGear cases. I JUST finished a 2 hour long e-mail to the factory and my design/ mold team. We are checking "waterlines" but I am attempting to make the dimensions 15.6cm X 11cm X 2.1cm. I know that the 2.1cm is thinner than the retail box... but dang, the slightly thinner spine looks so stinking nice in the smaller dems. I realized that going much lower than 2.1cm would make it harder for the SEGA logo on the top of the spine to seem right.  ;) I'll keep you all informed.  8)

That's great news!   I can live with the slightly reduced spine width.

Yeah, I actually prefer the thinner spine width.  I think the main concern is the front height / width being close to the retail box size.

Well, today is the day! Last night we finally ironed out all the small details. Check out the draft 3D drawing!  8)

I wanted to post it here first! (Because I really do love TCP community) <3  :-*

The final Dimensions came to: 15.6cm X 12cm X 2.1cm so the end result is a hair wider on the front and back then the original box. (I had to make room for the booklets and support plastic. The thickness of the spine is thinner then the original boxes, but the height should be very close to the original boxes.  :)
