Yeah, I heard this as well.  It's a shame.  Glad I snatched one up when I did.  In fact, I'm even more glad I never opened it.

Only reason I see is that they just want the games to get bought in the Switch.   They will just put up there VC and sell them there for a shitty inflated price like always.  God the VC is a terrible idea now.

Luckily, you can build or buy a Raspberry Pi for like $30-$50 and have hundreds of games from all of the consoles. Why anyone shelled out $60 and sometimes more to scalpers for the Classic, which is just a Pi, in an NES shell... I'll never understand.

Because it's official Nintendo hardware, not some crappy printed shell with a Pi inside and some random USB controller.

I mean, I understand what you're saying, but they're still not the same.

Agreed.

I own both a Mini and a Pi.  There are plenty of reasons for owning both.  But I still agree with the statement that there is no reason to pay more than $60.  I refused to pay more than that from the very start, and that will never change.

I hacked mine already, and put 1308 games on it (tons of hacked roms).  This thing is amazing (just to brag).  Couldn't last a day it seems with the 30 original games.

Only Nintendo would discontinue an item which literally can't stay on shelves for more than a few minutes.

I'm not defending Nintendo here, but if you look at their sales numbers for BotW, the Switch, and the Classic, Nintendo is actually servicing a LOT of customers. I would assume that they are afraid to bump up their manufacturing to match consumer demand: that has proven to be fatal for many companies. So, my guess is that instead of having 2 half-ass'd (in terms of manufacturing) consoles, Nintendo is cutting their losses and focusing on their Switch.

One thing to keep in mind is that at $60 MSRP, they really aren't making that much money, regardless of how many they are selling.  Their focus really should be on the Switch.

Additionally, the NES Classic isn't expandable. It's a one time sale of $60; however, the Switch has a plethora of accessories, games, VC, etc.

You can't say that for sure.  They may be making $10 per switch and $20 per NES classic.  It's all a matter of the cost associated with and quantity distributed for each product.
