Removing sticky residue from cardboard box
(1/1)

I recently bought a copy of "Ristar" for the Sega Genesis.  It's a cardboard box release.  A previous owner had wrapped the outer sleeve in a plastic protector, kind of like a phone screen protector, except that this was sticky on the inside.  I peeled the plastic off because it looked bad, but now there is sticky residue on about 50% of the box.  I tried Goo Gone, and while it dissolved some of the glue, it began to remove the coloring of the box so that's a no-go. I also tried to heat a portion with a hair dryer, but the residue didn't budge.  This glue is noticeably stronger than price sticker glue.  Basically I need some sort of solvent I can apply directly to the glue that will dissolve it without removing the ink from the box.  Any ideas?

I've removed residue from a number of different things such as collector's books, and tbh, it sounds like you're SoL.

Actually, I used Goof Off, not Goo Gone.  I'll probably get some Goo Gone - nothing to lose now.  Luckily I paid only what a cartridge and manual are worth, so I'll likely just print an insert from here and still have a "complete" copy.
