Ive submitted two covers or the past couple of days and i have zero idea what their status is. It would be very helpful if we had something to tell us if they were still pending or not.

Not gonna happen. They don't have the staff to keep people updated on cover upload status.

If it's not on the site yet, the status is pending. That's about all you need to and will ever know.

He was suggesting a way for members to tell if their covers were rejected or not.

Point is that nobody has time to tell each and every person whether their cover has met the criteria or not, and they definitely don't have time to tell people "hey, we know you're waiting for approval, but we haven't started reviewing your cover(s) yet."

Maybe they don't meet site standards, post them to the boards and let the experts look at them, if they are good enough they'll be hosted "eventually", that's the best you can hope for...

I have alsways thought, that this is an unfair argument.
They demand high quality from their users, so they should hold themself to the same standards.

It takes like 2 minutes to send a generic message to multiple people at once, when their covers have been rejected. (Something like: "Your cover has been rejected for -insert reason-! Please take to the forums to get further feedback from the community.")

That is not much, but better then silence...  ;)

And if time still is an issue - which is totally understandable - why is this just being accepted? Why don't we try to solve this?

Get more people involved?
Sort out inactive cover admins?
How many people would be needed?
How much workload is there a month?
How much can each cover admin handle?

This site really needs a lot more transparency.

Is it possible to extract some kind of report (for google spreadsheet or better on the site directly) where the upload requests can be visualized?
In this way the admins who check a certain cover could add a status (only one word per line) like "pending", "accepted", "refused" ?

Like:

Uploader / Date / System / Region / Name / Custom or Retail? / Cover Admin / Status
RecOne / 19.03.2017 / SNES / PAL / Mario Kart 17 / Retail / sheep2001 / Pending

In this way, nobody had to send PM's and there would be ONE place where everybody could check the current status > less questions + more info.
As side effect, the people could understand better that there might be a huge workload.

If i see "pending"  - i know you haven't checked it yet
If i see "accepted" - fine i know it must be on the site in a few days(?)
If i see "refused" - i can have another look at my cover to try to understand why it has been refused

That sounds like a good idea.
Nintandbox has such a system aswell, where they list all the uploads und their current status. (Only accessible for registered users.)

I suggested private messages, because that does not require any further programming.

The solution already exists.  The best way to get feedback is to post your covers in the forums.  If you skip this step and go straight to the upload form, you really shouldn't expect any feedback.  My only suggestion would be to somehow put in a reminder to submit the covers to the forum.  Maybe when try to upload a cover, there could be a message that suggests, or asks if you've already posted the cover in the forum.
Maybe, just once, someone will call me "sir" without adding, "you're making a scene."

Waits for mod/admin to chime in about the sheer volume of uploaded covers which require approval.  2 minutes x more than you know = WAY more time than any of these guys have to spend sneding out messages and such, especially when (seemingly) 90% of the stuff uploaded isn't even close to qualifying.  Then they'd have to deal with the inevitable responses such as "what do I need to do in order to make it qualify".

Trust me, this has all been discussed before, and we just cannot expect what amounts to volunteers to be professional customer service reps for this community.

Exactly what Wiggy and others have said - there are just way too many covers being uploaded for them to be able to give responses.

As TDIRunner pointed out, the solution is simple - post your covers in the forums first. Once people there say that it's good enough, then - and only then - upload it to the site.

I quick checked your Pac-Man cover in the other topic:

- Too many Screenshots
- Screenshots missing white border
- Front image's top goes under the template window.
- Front cover's bottom does not touch template window's edge (gray area vissible).
- Red lines in Front image need to be edited out.
- SNS code needs to be correct.
- Barcode needs to be correct (or atleast the numbers).
- Spine lower SNES logo ) the gray one) needs white border.
- Back text goes too much to the right (needs to stay on gray bars).
- Same with back cover Pac-Man title.
- Front image needs balanced color boosting (more virancy without going too wild and loosing detail) and maybe 3D effecting (don't know what the tool is called, just seen it used).
- Pieces of backcovers gray bars are missing.
- Back cover's white legal text needs editing.

mightv be more if I'd do more thorough check (which is needed before possible cceptance).

Good parts:
- Back text has dropshadow.
- Namco logos are spot on.

---------------------------------------------------------

As this level of scrutany with all submitted covers is needed you can see why we just ignore covers that have not been done properly even close.

Pretty much, if your cover doesn't gets posted, there was something wrong... for the most part. Sometimes covers get submitted and don't meet standards but are very close. Maybe they need additional cleaning or something. Often, I'll put those on the back burner and they appear much later (as I need to spend my own time cleaning them or correcting spelling, etc). I'd say that most cover that pass site standards get posted within a month. While we don't have the time to tell everyone why their cover didn't pass site standards, you can always ask me directly and I'll tell you.

The GameBoy Ultima cover didn't come close to meeting site standards. All assets need to come from a scan that is at least 300 dpi. And cover need to be cleaned.
Just look at what you submitted and compare it to what makes it on the site.

Everything that's been suggest takes time. Either we can get covers up that pass site standards or I can spend time writing up reports as to why a cover didn't meet site standards. Out of every 100 submissions, less than 10% meet site standards.
